The Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou - a UNESCO World Heritage site

The Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou, an ancient trade port, has a history spanning over 1,300 years, serving as a hub for cultural exchange. It incorporates artistic influences from China, India, and Southeast Asia. The Zhenguo Pagoda, built in 1238, is an octagonal stone pagoda standing at 48 meters with five stories. Each storey features sixteen exquisitely carved reliefs, totaling 80 vivid human figures. Its twin pagoda stands opposite the temple, symbolizing this sacred site. With its harmonious blend of Chinese and foreign architectural styles, the temple boasts halls, courtyards, pagodas, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Throughout its history, the Kaiyuan Temple has disseminated Buddhist teachings, attracted scholars, monks, and pilgrims, enriching Buddhist scholarship and spirituality.
