Hey man I know you mainly focus on knife stuff but this focus on other things is just awesome. I really liked your video on Mechanix gloves. If possible, can we expect to see a video on Oakley M frames or Casio G-Shocks in the near future?

WD-40 is pretty dang amazing. The only thing it’s not great for is long term lubrication in hinges, etc. You want an actual oil or grease for that.

Worth noting it is a poor lubricant and should not be used as such. Cleaning and rust prevention it's great.

The old flammable WD40 was better. So, they have changed the formula. WD40.1 or WD41?

It's pretty good at cleaning internal components but other stuff like acetone and brake cleaner are better than wd 40 at cleaning surfaces either way wd 40 is a poor lubricant so it often has to be used in conjunction with something longer lasting

WD-40 is not all that amazing. First of all it was designed by NACA to displace water on Dodge truck ignition systems during World War ii. And all they did was revamp the formula it is minimally effective at corrosion resistance. Which is all that is necessary on any kind of stainless steel. It is far more of a solvent then it is a lubricant. In the 1980s somebody got the bright idea to take the new stainless steel semi-autos and put WD-40 on them before they entered a shooting match. It became very apparent that doing that was a very dangerous proposition because some of the guns were locking up in mid cycle due to lack of lubrication. Believe me, WD-40 is a piss poor lubricant. If you're using it you have to continually apply it to make it stay a lubricant, like when you're spraying it on steel wool to remove rust from a panel. Can you put it on and leave it on it will turn into a gummy substance which will seal the metal but not long enough to be a long-term corrosion protectant. Especially if out in the weather. For longer than a few months and a few months is not a long-term test. WD-40 was not created in the 1950s it was created in the 1940s. During World War II. None of those failures of the atlas rocket had anything at all to do with the lack of WD-40 on it

i rarely comment on here, but that was such a concise and to-the-point video essay. so much so that i wrote basically half of this script down in my smart guy notes on my phone; to further explain to people about WD. as a machinist, i use it a lot for protecting the machines but also for spraying down finished steel parts before they ship out. WD40 and AeroKroil are the bees knees. maybe do a deep dive on Kroil video! that stuff has got to have a similar backstory, its really hard to find. i promise im not a salesmen for them haha, but ive used that stuff a lot too and would love to know if its got a cool back story as well

Wd40 used to be a lot more flammable. Used hydrocarbons as a propellant instead of inert gas. We used to soak tennis balls in it and play flaming street hockey.

Cleaning - Yes. Penetrating - Yes. Water displacing - I guess. Lubricating - No. Not at all. Not even a tiny bit. Just no, never.

Edit: It's basically diesel that smells better. Next time you don't have any WD just try some diesel.
