How do you go about getting a sharp edge with the chunky piece of flint you're stuck in the woods with
ОтветитьGreat info thanks for posting 👍
ОтветитьGreat explanation, thanks
ОтветитьGreat video, but I, personally, abhor the flint and steel fire making method! Where I am there aren't even rich sources of stone to begin with, let alone flint. The drill, and bow and drill methods are my go to methods for firemaking! It's so much easier than trying to knock a few sparks of a piece of steel and most likely breaking the sharp edge. With the drill, all you need is two piece of dry wood maybe some cordage to make it easier. I'm still interested in flint knapping though. That would prove way more useful. However, there are still things like bone, horn, and antler that are way more forgiving than flint. Even wood can be used to make a good fishing spear. So I might not even bother with flint at all.
ОтветитьGreat video! Just getting into flint and steel, and I appreciate the video. Thank you!
ОтветитьIs it possible to fashion a steel out of some scrap tools, say a shovel, or similar?
ОтветитьStarted playing D and D and had to figure out how to start a fire. Thank you! I will share it with the crew.
ОтветитьThanks for the demo, I had a rudimentary understanding but would take a hundred strikes to luck into a usable spark. After watching your explanation I have a full on flame in under a minute.
ОтветитьThank you very much Sir! I just got my Hudson bay steel, didn't know the proper strike technique. Know I got sparks.
ОтветитьVery helpful! ❤thank you for doing this!
ОтветитьThis helped me understand why the angle of the frizzen is such in a flintlock gun, awesome.
ОтветитьHere I thought throughout all of my childhood that it's a drop of a black liquid and not a stone because of Minecraft
Ответитьthx
edit: I opened a portal to hell in my backyard help
I tried this technique for fire lighting just last night with a friend just for fun, we wrapped some char cloth around the flint and like you said aimed for a sharp edge and the both of us were successful in producing flames within a minute and a half,, I expected it to be far more difficult
ОтветитьThanks for the video. We got a flint and steel kit from a blacksmith and my 9 year old has been at it for about 10 minutes. He got some sparks but has no idea how he did it lol
ОтветитьReally good tutorial explaining the process. Thanks, I’ve struggled for a while. I also wasn’t aware quartz worked which is useful to know depending on your location. I’ve finally managed to light a fire with flint and char cloth thanks to this.
ОтветитьA hole punch is a great way to create an edge out of flint. Way easier than traditional knapping.
ОтветитьThank you Dan, very well done 👍. Got it!
Ответитьminecraft reference
ОтветитьI used to think flint & steel in Minecraft was a pirate hook. Sometimes I still think that.
ОтветитьI hit the rock onto the striker. It makes the sparks drop downward into my char cloth and birds nest; as opposed to flying up into the air.
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьI bought one of these yesterday at Daniel Boones fort in Boonesborough Kentucky. That place was really cool to visit, and chat with the blacksmith that makes these things the old way.
Anyway thanks for this video! Helped me absolutely 👍🏻
Bravo ! I have 2 roman fire striker
ОтветитьThank you! Clear directions. Plus, the explanation of why and how this works is super helpful. Many thanks!
Ответитьjust right click
ОтветитьOr make your own steel from an old file. On and don’t forget the char cloth. Great job as always!
ОтветитьAwesome
ОтветитьThis is a certified Minecraft moment
Ответитьgot me a couple tiny sparks straight away with this technique! ❤
ОтветитьNewbie here. Good video. Very helpful.
Ответитьcould you pleace tell best substitutes for flint. Here where I live flint is not available naturally.
ОтветитьMinecrapft
ОтветитьIf you get some obsidian you can make a nether portal!
ОтветитьAlright. Now just need to find obsidian
ОтветитьYou can also knap the flint to have a razor edge.
ОтветитьThat's fire 🔥🔥🔥 now light a nether portal
ОтветитьAwesome, thanks!
ОтветитьSuch a simple to the point video.
Thanks 👍🏻
❤
ОтветитьWhat. Steel do you have
ОтветитьQuestion: Wouldn't the terms be reversed? The flint be the steel since it is the one actually creating the sparks and the rock is doing the shaving part of the production? Hmm
ОтветитьV2
ОтветитьExcellent presentation on the use of flint and steel.
Ответитьthank you for the informative video!!! im going to research more :o
Ответитьwhat alloy is the steel, just normal low carbon steel?
