you bought an old car and expected new car performance. Maybe you really should learn how to do some basic servicing by yourself, like oil changes, plug changes, etc.. don't expect that just because a mechanic is in business that he cares about your car, most mechanics are shite & if you learn how to do stuff yourself, the car will be better & you will know how it all works, I have a 1969 Lotus & a 1968 MG V8 roadster, The MG I have owned since 1986, the Lotus since 2000. If you like Sportscars, prepare to get your hands oily. A sportscar is a thing of beauty & speed, but it comes at a cost - Maintanance
ОтветитьHe’s absolutely correct regarding potential injector corrosion as a direct result of water ingress from the open bonnet grills. This is more likely if the car spends its life outdoors/not under a cover. I have a 2015 v6s, the owner before me had injector failure at 65k miles and paid full JLR dealer prices to remedy. I called the JLR dealership before buying the car from a private dealer and they gave me the full job sheet. £8,000 including vat. Sadly for my cars prior owner these issues could have been fixed for a fraction of the price had it gone to an independent specialist. Fortunately for me, I now have the common age/wear related issues dealt with, injectors, coolant pipes, chains etc.
My advice: incredible value for money car at the moment (I originally wanted a cayman gts), but it does need maintenance, do your homework and spend some money carrying out preemptive maintenance. Also, if the car is going to be kept outdoors, find a way to stop water ingress from the bonnet grills. I bought the JLR carbon grills and used high temp plastic weld the block the little holes from the inside. The engine does not need air flow from these holes to cool.
Also, also, also, I had the diff oil serviced recently, get this done more regularly than the suggested service interval and I had the exhaust valves replaced at Tony Banks in Leeds for around £400.
I couldn’t recommend buying one more, great car - buy one!
A 10 year old car, and push its limit, that will blow up all of the old plastics internal parts
ОтветитьConsumer Protection Act gives a full refund up to 30 days after purchase if the car is rejected. After that the dealer may offer a repair which you are obliged to accept.
ОтветитьIs that the "V6" that's a V8 with two spare holes in the block that do nothing but add weight?
ОтветитьYou were lucky. My daughter bought a car from a dealer in Bolton. The EGR valve failed within a couple of weeks of purchase, they let her take it to a local garage to get it fixed and they said the engine was crap and it would go again. She tried to return the car, the dealer refused and it eventually went all the way to arbitration. The dealership, at one point had the car back to look at, said there was nothing wrong with it and returned it to her. She eventually went to arbitration and was basically forced to accept a “ negotiated” settlement so lost a couple of thousand pounds and returned the car. The moral of this isn’t about the car per se but the people you are buying from. This shower were out and out crooks in my view.
ОтветитьSadly, the Jaguar brand is dead, in large part because their reputation for being unreliable is completely true.
ОтветитьI have the open bonet grills on my XKR with the injectors just underneath also, Not had any probs with it but will now keep this info in mind, Thanks.
ОтветитьJaguar themselves acknowledged this was an issue and changed the design slightly a couple of year later so the water ran away
ОтветитьI have a 2015 V6s, in the US no problems. But mine has the vents like the one for the V8 that you replaced yours with which is odd. I bought mine used but doubt that the previous owner changed them out. I wonder if Jaguar changed them to the more open vents that caused your problems in later year models. Anyway, I absolutely love the car, still a blast to drive and even though mine is 10 years old, I still get people admiring the car. Problems or not, it's a classic and will never look dated or old IMO.
ОтветитьI've owned 7 Hondas and never replaced 1 part, To add excitment in my life I want to buy a BMW, Land Rover or a Jaguar.
ОтветитьI’m not sure how true this is but I have heard that jaguar is now owned and made in India
ОтветитьNot woke still broke.
ОтветитьThe F-type's reliability is heavily dependent on its owner's understanding about cars in general and code reading, this engine, wear and tear parts, driving habits and regular maintenance. If you don't want to learn these things, buy a Toyota. I own a 2018 manual transmission V6 and it's been incredibly reliable.
ОтветитьPicked up my V6s last week.. Ben you're probably the only guy I know that's owned the V6 and the S. Please make a video about any differences in driving you've noticed
ОтветитьThe water getting through the vents does not cause the injector to fail but the corrosion around the injector makes the injector very hard to get out , the injector is Bosch and 90% plastic but the tip is steel and made in Turkey on the side,
my wife's had the same issue and I did it on the drive with just hand tools and took 3 hours start to finish and that was all 3 injectors and a fuel rail drivers side ( jag do a kit )
The real issue is water in the E10 petrol so you need to run a can of injector cleaner every 4 months as that removes any corrosion from the injector and removes water from the tank
BG44 is added to the tank in the US on every Jag main dealer service
'Honest, I never went over 2500 rpm' !
ОтветитьReliabity wise there ok but depends how you look after it ...
ОтветитьSomeone thrashed the engine when it was cold????
Ответитьyou bought a jag and it broke. um.......of course it did. Its not a lexus.
ОтветитьHAHAHAHAHA
ОтветитьJLR JUNK
ОтветитьHad an F Pace2.0 ingenium engine. Absolutely a disaster and cost a fortune. JLR were very unhelpful 😡
ОтветитьIts built by JLR what else did you expect?
ОтветитьHi Ben, even the revised vents let copious amounts of water through into the engine bay. I would recommend modifying the engine cover (something Jaguar should have done). The EPDM method looks very neat. Or some owners have even sealed up those tiny holes. If they do eventually fail there are plenty of injector removal companies who can get them out with little fuss. PS the AWD cars have a different vent position.
ОтветитьI have a V8R 2015. On this model the vents are further down the bonnet and there are extra rubber flaps underneath. Owned the car for 3 years currently on 49K not missed a beat, new battery a year ago, serviced by a Jag specialist!
ОтветитьGo broke go woke! Wait...
ОтветитьMaybe you should've bought one that had been maintained better?
I've had my Jag for 3 years with no issues at all.
I believe that's why the Injectors go bad. The water causes them to rust and then the moisture on the Injectors causes missfiring and later white smoke before it goes to the Ghost. There's a rubber piece that can be either attached to the hood or placed under the air vents. I haven't decided yet between an C7 Corvette Grand Sport or an P380. They're so loud. There's a few things that I don't like but the Performance is incredible for such a small rocket. And it uses less gas here in Germany for basically the same dynamic as a Vet. No hurry when loking for the right 1 for Me. The price is going down but I haven''t seen ANY for 23K and 45K. For that price NO RED FLAGS? Thanks for the Video though. Good to see Folks that Educate through bringing US with Them and showing that Shit happens although maintainence was done. The Car's maintainence history didn't give any indication that a Service was missed? Good that You bought from a Dealer. 1 problem less.
ОтветитьI also have a v6 f type facelift from 2019. I ve had problems with O2 sensors and with catalityc converters9my car have 62.000 km). Ive taken down the cats and putted supersprint downpipes
ОтветитьOn the plus side, at least it's not pink.
ОтветитьWhys your car gay?
ОтветитьThe injectors seizing is a common problem on the F Type RWD models- due to water ingress. This was the main reason why I bought an AWD one.
ОтветитьI don't think the rebranding has anything to do with the reliability of the cars.
ОтветитьIt’s a used Jag from a unprofessional user what would ya expect?
ОтветитьWhere do i buy those bonnet vents?
ОтветитьSo you didn't get a specialist inspection done, before you took ownership? You are a tool.
ОтветитьWell i’ve owned 7 VWs and as far as i’m concerned the older cars were much better, newer ones are like KIAs only they’re probably better
ОтветитьGetting an AWD model is a great way to avoid the ingress because the vents are relocated. My P300 has those vents like yours too
ОтветитьThank you for this awesome review. For all the nay sayers: The Underrated Gem: My Review of the Jaguar F-TYPE R
When it comes to high-performance sports cars, few are as misunderstood as the Jaguar F-TYPE R. As a dedicated Jaguar enthusiast with a history of owning these remarkable vehicles, I can confidently say this car deserves a lot more credit than it gets. The perception that Jaguars are unreliable is an outdated myth, one perpetuated by those who’ve never experienced the thrill, history, and character that these vehicles bring to the table.
Let’s be clear about one thing: high-powered sports cars require more maintenance than your typical SUV or commuter vehicle. This isn’t a quirk exclusive to Jaguar; it’s the reality of any car engineered for exhilarating performance and designed to take you from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye. If you’re expecting a high-performance sports car to require the same level of upkeep as a Toyota 4Runner, you’re simply misinformed. The F-TYPE R, like any serious sports car, needs attention to perform at its peak; but it’s a dependable machine, not the fragile car some claim it to be.
The Jaguar F-TYPE R delivers a driving experience unlike any other, standing as a modern masterpiece of British engineering. Its supercharged V8 unleashes 550/575 horsepower with ease, delivering an acceleration that is thrillingly fast yet smooth, and the exhaust note is incomparable. The sound that erupts from this car is pure music to an enthusiast’s ears; deep, throaty, and unapologetically loud. It’s a sound that commands attention, a signature roar that resonates with the rich racing heritage Jaguar brings to the table. Jaguar’s legacy is all over this car; even Enzo Ferrari himself once said the Jaguar E-Type was the most beautiful sports car ever made; a testament to Jaguar’s design legacy.
The handling of the F-TYPE R is sharp and confidence-inspiring. It’s responsive, and while it may not have the “razor-sharp” feel of a track-focused car, it’s precise enough to tackle winding roads with an agility that feels both thrilling and accessible. It’s a car built to perform in the real world, not just on the track, and that makes it all the more enjoyable as an everyday performance car.
Calling Jaguars “garbage” is the opinion of the misinformed, those who haven’t experienced the true quality of a Jaguar. They may not know the rich history that surrounds these cars; the racing legacy, the engineering prowess, and the passion that has gone into every detail of models like the F-TYPE R. The F-TYPE SVR is an undervalued gem in the sports car world, combining power, luxury, and character in a way few other cars can.
For those who understand its heritage and respect the care it takes, the F-TYPE R is a thrilling, reliable, and beautifully crafted sports car; a true icon in the making, echoing Jaguar’s prestigious history and deserving of its place in any true car enthusiast’s garage. Now excuse my rant.
"liberal woke community".... OK, tell me what that means. Go ahead.
ОтветитьInvest in some metric wrenches/ tools. Get you a code reader. Get an oil changer hand pump. Change your own oil. My wife bought a 2012 Disco 4 with the beastly V8. It's pretty much the very same engine as yours just with two extra Pistons. I stay in tune with the engine. She'll run like a Jag❤. These JLR engines can be quirky, but it's VERY worth it.
ОтветитьYou bought a high mileage older F type, with no knowledge of maintenence history. Stop whining.
ОтветитьYou are not alone in your experience. I recently purchased an F-Pace petrol vehicle, and I have encountered numerous issues since the day of acquisition. It appears that the merger with Land Rover may have negatively impacted the quality of the production process.
ОтветитьI’m from the north east and this is embarrassing!
I’ve never heard so much bullshit talked in a long time.
This idiots just talking for the sake of talking !
Those Injectors are easy to get to. You dont have to remove much of anything besides hoses, spark plug harness and fuel rail. Its a ford engine!
ОтветитьAre you sure it was Glasgow , or Edinburgh or maybe even Dundee 😂
ОтветитьEyup Ben. Interesting. I had a 2017 V8R awd for 4 years. Thrashed the hell out of it. Great car. But owning one i did speak to many guys with the V6 models. Most of which complained of injection problerm , which strangely the V8 did not suffer from. Some say they have the same injection system so I cannot understand why only the V6 did this. The only problem i had at 19000 miles it burned out a cat & was replaced under warantee by a main dealer.
Steve.
I’ve been lucky with my 2015 FType V8S. Only because it was serviced by the Jaguar dealer and this has been proven around the world being iffy. Their service intervals are extreme in length and more. I took control and doing my own maintenance and service. For what I know now owning this one for many years now. I would think twice about a Jaguar only service vehicle.. you need to buy one from a owner that takes charge and very into their car as a enthusiast, it will be meticulously owned and used!
ОтветитьIt's crazy the number of comments rebuking this guy for "thrashing" the car by bringing the engine RPM's up to high. This makes no sense, you buy a car like this for that very reason. I am thinking about purchasing one of these. If you are telling me that I cannot rev the motor to near redline every now and then what is the point? Completely absurd proposition to buy this type of car and putt around at 2-3k rpm.
Ответить
