tldr: they got them completely legit, backed up, canadian passports.... so ofcourse they just pretty much walked trough customs and just got on a flight... if you have an actual legit passport, that gets backed bu the country that issued it, then what is the problem, you basically just left as any other legit canadian would have ... because you were in fact, a legit canadian, i dont see the whole deal

A great story and it adds context to the movie. At the end of the movie credits it was interesting that Jimmy Carter made no mention of his failed military rescue and didn’t mention they were only returned to Ronald Reagan.

It's a shame the CIA failed to forsee the possibility of the Embassy take over in the first place.

The main reason this nonsense movie was made , was to take away all the credit away from Canada and Ken Taylor . It made the U.S. appear weak that , they had to go to Canada for help , so the story was totally twisted around , to make it look like the U.S. did all the work .

The cia played a minor role in the rescue. As president carter noted in his interview afterwards, about 90% of it was done by Canada.

Hopefully this can never happen again. Iran made a great mistake in charging and raiding the US Embassy. This mistake has hurt them badly in any type of relationship with the USA. Yes the former President of Iran messed things up too. Now with the war in the Gaza strips and Iran supporting Hamas is ruining the relationship with the USA. Thank goodness for the efforts of Canada, its organizations and the USA and its organizations. I don't know all the things the CIA does, but I'm thankful there work in this.

It's so interesting. Uncle Tony is " Antonio " yet even Aunt Jonna calls him " Tony ". Jose Ferrer, my dearest uncle figure, liked to be called " Joe ". No, I'm not trying to imply that my beloved humans are self hating- it's just something " cute " that they share. I " compromise- Mendez is " Tony " and Ferrer is " Jose ". 🤣

Canada was the real hero in this story. They worked the plan, executed the plan, and was frustrated by the slow responses and decisions by the Carter administration. Without the Canadian government this would have been a success. The CIA watched the events they didn't execute it... Total bull shit story

Great title - “Argo: inside story”. Because you certainly couldn’t call it “ Argo: True Story.
If you want the true story listen to President Carter talk about it. He said 80% credit belongs to Canadian government. Do you honestly think the US would ever change their laws just to print fake American passports to help kidnapped Canadians or Brits?

@HJ-eb8wt
@HJ-eb8wt - 21.11.2024 00:36

Just watched this documentary. Amazing, heroic stuff! I'm a little confused though, as I've seen 2 interviews with President Carter talking about the movie Argo. He said, and I quote, "90% of the contributions to the ideas and the consummation of the plan was Canadian, and the movie gives almost full credit to the American CIA. And with that exception, the movie is very good"! I note there's a clip in the movie where a CIA agent says "the Brits and Kiwis refused to help"!! Well I happen to know the Brits and Kiwis did in fact help, both hosting Americans until the British Embassy became unsafe and, at personal risk, ferrying the Americans to the much safer Canadian Embassy.
So, I guess my question is why does Hollywood feel the constant need to over inflate the contribution of Americans whilst downplaying that of other nations. In other words, re-writing history? Also, why does this documentary follow the narrative of the movie, rather than real history? Reminds me of that wonderful, historically accurate movie 'U571'.
