The sport almost didn't make it through the controversial Goatgate deflated goat scandal a few years back. Good to see the commission and the players' union got it settled in time for the 2020 season.

In the official rules for many professional games including the World Nomad Games, intentionally ramming opponents with your horse is an illegal move. Also, these days the goat is often replaced by a synthetic/rubber substitute for durability and humane purposes.

Little do we know, but when a horse comes up lame (could be as simple as a twist of the ankle in simpler terms or more severe like a broken bone or torn ligaments) they dont fix the horses. They actually kill them right away. Same with horse races in the US. Its too much money to have the horse get surgery and become retired n still need to care and attention like any horse would. It would costs the owners hella money. So instead they destroy the horse and buy a new one. Or if they are big time, they already have a breeding schedule

Yes, you are right. Buzkadhi is really spectacular sport to watch in Afghsnistan. I really enjoyed from nearby in the ground while horses running swiftly in a speed you get more enjoy ,it is really amazing game.

Don't forget that they prep the goat the day(s) before, and soak it in a creek overnight so it's nice and waterlogged and heavy as $**%. They all carry whips, presumably to encourage the horses, but mostly they use them to beat any opponent that dares try to touch the goat. The horses are the most talented players by far, and they seem to love the game. And back in '03, the countryside Afghans liked American servicemen enough to let us ride and play Buzkashi with them. They make it look easy, but just picking that goat off the ground while on horseback is a feat in itself. Man, those were the days...

In all seriousness, this is super impressive being able to chuck a fucking 99-lb. object into a hole while on horseback the whole time

Shucks these Afghans are Impossible Level OP. Anyone else falling from horses like these guys at that speed will either be paralysed or seriously hurt and not to mention they don’t even give a damn about being trampled diving like that near horse hoofs. No wonder they’re known as the graveyard of empires as any nation which tried to conquer them was beaten badly. Quickly Joe Rogan brother, you need to show this

There isn’t really any tactics. You kind of just run with the goat to the opposite side and score, and it seems like they score every 10 seconds. Essentially the guy with the fastest horse runs it down and the other team just hopes he misses….

I also feel kind of bad for the Horses too, and I’m not even a horse guy. I just feel like they’re ran full speed all the time with dudes on their backs. Must be brutally exhausting.

How are there not 5 fatalities, 25 concussions, and 79 broken bones in each game?
