Nice video, great guys. However, it is not "western philosophy" nor "ancient scripts", its Greek philosophy and Greek scripts. Learning Greek and reading those texts in the actual language will awake you

Thanks guys great talk .But vital mistake and I won’t go into the details .Socrates was not ‘made to drink the hemlot ‘he was offered the chance to leave the city but on principle of ‘obeying the law ‘ he decided to drink ! This is a very important principle

The True Story Of History’s Greatest Philosopher - Donald Robertson
~~~ History's Greatest Philosopher? Really? When most of Earth thinks of 'greatest philosophers', I imagine at least you are quite the fan of this fellow.
Yet you admit that "Socrates is history's greatest philosopher,"!
Fanboy seems confused.
and an expert on ancient philosophy.
~~~ My Roomba can recite every scripture and philosophical notion that has ever been set to paper while vacuuming under the couch!
So what?
Can't anyone actually think for themselves anymore?
Sheesh!

I'm trying to figure out what Donald Robertson's accent is ... to me he sounds mostly Irish but one that's lived in Scotland the last 20 years.
Am I right? Or am I completely off?

What would you Brits say his accent is?

The socratic methods best application is to remove assumption. People speak a lot of words but have contemplated few of them. They never examine it beyond the definition that they are given. In this they have information that they can regurgitate but no comprehension beyond that definition. So when you speak to a populace or even a small group of people if you say Courage, or Justice, or even Ethics, you are relying on their understanding of those words, not your own.

This was like a warm hug you get in the morning just before you head out for work. I liked the importance on really recognizing work as something that could be continuously done without stopping, without agony, or withdrawal from it. I also liked the subtle reminder that great thinkers or advisors have their knowledge given to us simply because there was eventually someone assigned to write it down as they were aiding emperors and the like. I have quite a bit of guilt watching something this long but it’s nourishing in a way that leaves me torn. Anyways, wishing everyone a lovely day in the interim ❤

Enjoyed this podcast and definitely will revisit Chris Williamson to watch more... Think the cup he was referring to with the alcohol (might be wrong here) has to do with Pythagoras (Plato was influenced by this mathematician) where the cup once it goes passed a certain level, there is a cone in the middle that empties it out showing greedy folks will not get anything.. still around in Pythagorio, Samos.

I am indeed filled with much anger. Yet I realize there is way too much of it out there and me contributing to it will not help me or anyone else. I make it a point to control all my emotions and attempt to calm any situation I find I can.

One aspect of being a soldier is accepting the fact that you are likely to die, and that you have little control over whether or not you die. You become fatalistic. There are many things to worry about in combat. Worrying about dying is one of the least productive.
