Those railings are there to keep you on the ship, not for climbing or sitting on.
ОтветитьLook at those ears🥰🦘👍
ОтветитьWhat I've learned from watching lots of these maritime accident videos is that crew members should always question their superiors to a degree! Trust but verify! Humans make mistakes.
ОтветитьI just had to like and subscribe after seeing this vid. Cheers from Canada.
ОтветитьMike, your production quality seems to only get better with each video you release. That, combined with your easy, confident delivery style, makes each one a truly interesting and informative occasion. Hopefully one day I'll be able to join the crew and see my own name "up in lights"! Cheers!
ОтветитьThe sea is a very unforgiving place.
ОтветитьThis time of year in The Channel, unless you're wearing an immersion suit, anywhere from ten to thirty minutes before you die of "exposure", essentially hypothermia. If it's really cold like in late January/early February you can have a heart attack from thermic shock.
ОтветитьBoth sides of my family earnt their livings, either from The Thames or The Sea. As a result I have a very good idea of what a dangerous environment it is. I've sailed dingys, paddled canoes and piloted small hovercraft since my early teens. Even on a still sea, you can f*ck up.
ОтветитьLove your stuff, Mike. Your love of the history of seafaring and maritime trade is obvious in your well researched and highly informative documentaries, thank you.
ОтветитьI have ongoing dreams of my running vessels aground.
ОтветитьNot too long ago flight attendant was on a cruise and fell overboard at night. She had to tread water for over 8 hours until she was picked up and saved. She credited her training for her ability to stay calm and survive. An absolutely crazy survival story!
ОтветитьTo be honest if you can't control yourself i don't have much sympathy. Doesnt matter how drunk I was, I had a rule to never set foot on my apartment balcony after drinking. Let alone the railing.
ОтветитьWhy are they wearing Mickey Mouse Hollywood uniforms??!
ОтветитьSomehow not shocking that cruise ship passengers would be indifferent to human life.
ОтветитьLove the accent. Makes the story telling much more interesting somehow. Plus I love the content.
ОтветитьHey guys its Mike Brady!!!
Ответить22 minutes in and just waiting for The Vasa ship. We Swedes dont want to talk about it.
ОтветитьWatching a ship take to the water for the first time is almost an emotional moment. In 1981 I watched the launch of the Illustrious class carrier HMS Ark Royal from the bank of the River Tyne, opposite Swann Hunter's yard, where she was built. Knowing what would probably happen I stood some way back, but a good number of people, mainly children, went home with wet feet.
ОтветитьGreat content, really enjoy this channel. Although I am thinking has there ever been a cruise liner that has never sunk, had a collision, run aground or caught fire!!
Ответитьmonarch is just the concordia done right
ОтветитьMonarch of the seas story made me think that aviation CRM (crew resource management) techniques need to be pulled into the marine industry on the bridge.
ОтветитьI must say I was happy to hear all party's were safe and sound in this 1985 gashing then beaching Ship given the loss of life on most of the sinking's here on Oceanliner Designs
Ответить'ave you got a light bouy...
ОтветитьRe the Monarch: The airline industry call it Crew Resource Management. Failure in that regard has been responsible for many of the worst air accidents.
ОтветитьI see this as a great time to learn
ОтветитьNo one could have known that Mary was a squirter.
Ответитьwell, if a splash in the ocean is dystopian, so are the oversized ghetto barges of the cruise liners-- so much better to enjoy rides on Washington State Ferries than those monsters.
ОтветитьIf you're going to dramatise scenes then you need proper costumes for officers - not just a black jacket with a bit of gold tape round the wrists.
ОтветитьThoroughly enjoyed this thank you,
ОтветитьARPA isn’t used for navigation, it’s used to aid collision avoidance. They were using Radar mapping.
ОтветитьShe a thicc boatgirl.
ОтветитьRetired 27-year merchant mariner getting my sea fix without getting wet, tired or risk spilling my cup of joe going to the bridge. Very professional program. Thanks.
ОтветитьI was a Marine on the LHA USS Guam hitting 40 foot waves in a North Sea storm off Norway in the winter of 1980. It was one hellofva ride, but we were always confident the sailors running that ship would get us through.
ОтветитьHave heard of too many modern "sailors" relying on Technology to do their work for them. Ship hitting the breaker entering harbour in bad weather because they were looking into the radar not out the window. Mid Indian ocean a junior officer was asked by an much older senior officer what they would do if the GPS went down. Response was drop andchor and call up tech support. From an ex Merchant Naval man.
Ответитьanother thing about drunks going overboard is that there are some hungry fish out there (sharks) who would love to meat (pun very much intended) you.
was steward on a tanker now most catering staff had split shifts and tended to get a couple of hours kip in the afternoon,
one day i got woken up buy loud noises from the deck above my cabin, i noticed that there was no main engine noise then the life boat being launched, my thoughts was simple "those effing a-oles are leaving me behind"
what had happened was someone had seen a body in the sea and we had stopped to recover it.
The passenger who fell overboard had consumed NINETEEN cocktails…”drunk” doesn’t even begin to describe her condition when she fell off the rail. I surprised she hadn’t just bust into flames!
ОтветитьI would recommend viewers to read Roald Dahl's excellent short story "Dip in the Pool" 😉
ОтветитьYay Monarch of the Seas video!
Yeah I remember when that shit was on the news
Everyone was talking about it
Imagine if we had social media
I love seeing the “skeleton” of a ship as well as buildings
The shell and interior design conceal it so well it at first glance I’d think it’s just materials carved out and installed to serve as walls 😅
Automatic Radar Plotting Aid, A.R.P.A.... Arpa means a lottery ticket in Finnish. 😁
Edit: typo
Got a Royal Caribbean ad while watching this.
ОтветитьIn my 10 years working as a crewmember I've heard the MOB alarm a few times, once an old lady survived even in the cold water of theBaltic sea....but people saw it and it was an accident....unfortunately, in warm water where people party hard and drink a lot, they are not usually that lucky 😢
ОтветитьLove this and your content.. thanks so very much
ОтветитьYou're supposed to hand over leadership while injured or sick for good reason.
ОтветитьIve noticed the captain leaving the bridge in the vicinity of a reef is a trend in these groundings.
ОтветитьThose crazy Italian ship makers....did nobody know that ballast was bilge water? Serously, anybody? LOL
Ответитьwhen I was young, taking a ferry from UK mainland to Ireland, all the adults were like whispering about someone that had fallen overboard - though I can't actually find any reports during that time online, so idk if the rumour had been started elsewhere, and the accompanying adults took it (rightfully so) seriously, but I do remember not be allowed to go outside for the entire trip to and back (but also I was like 11/12 so maybe just adults being responsible)
it stuck with me though, and even today when I go on ferries, I feel a sense of.. dread? being out on deck, and if I do go out, I hug the walls like my life depends on it 😅
