Starter sets will save you a lot of money, I would recommend getting two different starter sets that way you get a better variety of units. If you pick the right to starter sets all you would need us to pick up the bigger units such does the ghost keels and riptides as well as specialty characters.definitely pick up a hammerhead.

A really great addition to a starter set would be to grab a stealth suit team. The kit is pretty cheap in scale of price and stealth suits are VERY resilient for their points. Especially in smaller lists which I found out first hand in my own first game the other day.

When I first got started with 40K I bought the start collecting box and create a Breacher team as opposed to a strike team for the firepower aspect, will that still work?

Here's my current list:
Ethereal on Hover drone
3 Crisis Suits
10 man Breacher Team
10 man Strike Team
Riptide (only because it was big and cool looking)
The drones I simply built according to what I saw on the box cover

more or less started out as you said with the start collecting box but i made breachers and have them in a devilfish. havent gotten a cadre yet but I do have a hammer hed just never thought to use him as alongstrike stand in. and i entriely agree with the ghost keel love every aspect of him

I am highly dissapointed in this video. The first thing you can think to suggest is Commander spam? You do realize that when the codex comes out that tactic will be severely nerfed right?

So I bought a commander, starter kit, Riptide, a Sunshark bomber/Fighter and another fire team. I went Strike team I think with my Fireteam I built. But I am curious if I went wrong and wasted any money at all if I want to play against others?

Interesting, I've been slowly assembling an army but haven't played yet. Nice to see I already have most of what you recommend here. I wasn't aware you could run Crisis Suits as Commanders. Is there any physical difference in assembling the model you'd need to have done? Or is it just a matter of saying, "this is a Commander" when you plunk it down on the table? Thanks!

So because of the chapter approved T'au points changes, apparently my 2500/3000 army is now over 4000...

I haven’t played since tau were introduced so I have an original starter box, a devil fish, a hammerhead, some pathfinders, original stealth team, some kroot hounds and krootox. I want to get back into the hobby but not sure what to do with all the new rules and codex hopefully soon. I’m less tournament focused more just getting back into the hobby and not sure what to do before I finish painting it all

I mean real depend kind lists to make in long term. In practice either go heavy drones and crisis suits have maybe one or two drone control allow 8 point model able shot effective combine burst cannons one commander drone control. Then anti vehicle roles just use commander with fusion guns.

Get a start collecting and use your crisis suits as commanders. That is how you get 1000 points cheap XD

Would love to know now in 2019 where should i start with a 500 point army on a slow grow campaign starting next year at my hobby shop and this will push me into actually painting my army,and playing with them.
Should add i dont know how to build a nice army to play with but i do have 1 ethereal, 40 fire warriors ,40 pathfinders (6 with Ion and 6 with Rail rifles),1 cadre fireblade ,6 steath suits,1 Ghostkeel ,1 Dark strider ,1 Devil fish, 2 Piranhas, 1 Commander with 3 fusion and shield(not magnetized), 2 Riptides ,9 xv8 battle suits(magnetized), 3 broadsides and 27 kroot and getting Shadowsun in december.

I assume this list is illegal for matched play with the 8th edition codex which states that there is only one commander allowed per detachment?

Is all of this info good for 9th edition?
