good info bro..I had been to Svalbard. all info are correct just that its not a country. It is one of the many archipelagos and a sovereign state of kingdom of Norway that is controlled by a governor, appointed by Norway . It is true that u don't need a visa but as you correctly mentioned you need to get Schengen visa. also it is next to impossible to get a job there as you need to know Norwegian + you should have to withstand extreme cold like our dedicated jawans in Siachen.
