Hi Mike.

Very interesting indeed.

As for the formula for working out the speed, did you use a stopwatch between 2 points then divide '414.414' by the amount of seconds the train took between those points?

Incidentally, to ascertain the actual maximum speed of each loco, you should have run them without any rolling stock attached!

Ciao,

Paul. 👍❤

A great comparision video: Always great to see the Javelin, I often see them tearing alongside the M20, when I'm driving. I have a Lima 125 which stepped up a pace when I gave it a CD motor conversion 👍

Hello, that was a different video,I do like the modern locos and steam ones to go round the track at a time.some quick ones amongst them.

considering that the pacer was actually developed from a BR high-speed freight vehicle it wouldn't be surprised if someone could rig one up to hit 120.

would be interesting to show some more modifications to bring the models to irl scale speed.

my fastest steam locomotive was a bachmann hall that got to 140mph scale speed and my hornby railways Castle was second at 133mph

Fun little video, love seeing the 3in1 oil Class 06 and the Lima Plymouth, very funny to see that legend of the channel running around at nearly 200mph when in real life it was probably some slow chunky chain driven engine.

You Class 06 is like Top Gear's Toyota pick up truck, it's been beaten to hell but still keeps chugging along!!

Great fun. I'm sure glad the real pacers didn't run at that speed- (sometimes hard to stay in your seat at 50mph on those things). I think my Jouef/Playcraft North British 0-4-0 diesel may give the winner a bit of competition though I have my doubts if it could pull 3 coaches - I shall find out tomorrow.

Great fun. That Lima shunter is one of my favourite locos, beautifully moulded and a good runner. Usually called freelance but it's a pretty accurate representation of a Plymouth from the USA. A deserved but strangely inappropriate winner. How about a video showing various locos pulling trains at their correct scale speeds. It will be a revelation to many modellers. Great video.

Love the video - great to see something a bit different. I have an Oxford Rail J27 - in its instructions, it genuinely says to use 3 In 1 oil. Nothing wrong with the stuff!

A real pacer at that speed would either give passengers extreme sea sickness or injury from all the bouncing around.

what i found hilarious was that you had a pacer going faster then 60 mph! if only they could go that fast in real life they probably still be as hated but boy it be one hell of a fun ride if a little scary!

I have a Mobil1-0w20-bathed, cast potmetal, 1952 unmodified O-gage Lionel 1614 Switcher (Scout 0-4-0) that will do the scale speed of sound...in a straight line and will become airborne if not careful, albeit with no tender or train attached.
