My thoughts on GMOs as a farmer

I agree with what you say we used round up ready since early to mid 90s! Who is Dr. oz? Think GMO and Round ups scary go back and look up what they use in the 40s-70s for chemicals.Bedbug sprays in the cities,agent orange, mercury in the use of mining at the turn of the century the list goes on and on! One drop of mercury pollutes 100,000 gallons of water! It is still used in gold mining in third world nations today!!!

the opinion about GMO crops are critical and its forbidden here in europe. I thought the same because there has to be a reason for the restiction but that has changed because the scientists here in europe already try to modified the genetics of the human, so my question is then...why GMO crops are still forbidden when they are already thinking about modifieing the human´s genetics???

Let's GM the human race to need less food solving food shortage in one easy move, oh we're already doing that, sorry my bad!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve heard the reason people think organics taste better is because farmers typically plant less acres of organics, and so the fields end up getting a little more attention and the crops end up being a slightly higher quality than mass-produced GMOs that are less needy and less hands-on

I guess I was feeling somewhat nostalgic because I thought I should watch this video again and comment on how far you've come in the few years you've been doing this. This was the first video of yours I ever watched. I was interested in GMOs and after a quick Google search I ended up here. Keep it up Zach!

You use Glyphosate (RoundUp). RoundUp has been determined to cause cancer. RoundUp is now found in trace elements in almost all the foods we eat. RoundUp up is a scourge on the planet and it is also poisoning our water supply. In light of all the data of how dangerous RoundUp is, and massive awards of the courts on people who were poisoned by RoundUp, you should update this video. I hope you change your farming practices. I have traveled extensively in Europe, and they do not use such catastrophic farming techniques like American factory farms.

Hybrid crops are one thing. Watering down the nutritional value and using arsenic to make them bullet proof is not a good trade off for more profit.

Yes, humanity has been selectively breeding plants for thousands of years. But that is not the same as GMO. In the first case, we are merely exaggerating parts of the genetic code that God/Nature created. In the second case, we are splicing in genes from animals and other plants that could never combine in nature.

Some people just have to try to cause a panic over things they call out as bad. They just want to cause problems & make people freak out over nothing. Things in life are simple but people make them harder than they are.

If people care about the land so much in MN then stop Throwing trash in the lakes that is also a form of Pollution !!! We are always picking trash out of the water. Click baiters want to complain & cause a panic about how the farming land is ruining the water then why don't they put that effort into helping clean out the water from all the trash people throw into it as well. I never see anyone get a ticket for littering here in this state. You want to make a difference then start there & leave the hard working farmer alone for trying to make a living. They are closer to God & Mother earth for what they do than you will ever be.

I think you should do your own research on GMO’s and be OPEN minded when you do the research. I get the fact that you make a LOT of money from GMO’s so your already biased to begin with and I get that. If you do the research, you will find that a LOT of countries have BANNED use of GMO’s/roundup products. Countries just don’t ban things for no reason! I have done research and I am doing my best to ONLY eat organic products but its difficult at times to find everything we need. I have watched a lot of your vid’s I think your great, so thanks for showing us all a little piece of your life. Peace!

There is a lot of misinformation about GMO's and a lot of myth about the wonders of 'organic' food. Thanks for taking the time to make this video Zach.

It's a proven fact that GMO's are poison to both human and animals...eating them is a death sentence for the eater and profits of death for MomSTERsanto.

Few years after this was published and this is brilliant, speaking the truth and more people need to listen. Massively appreciate you putting this out there. I'm not a farmer but educated in production on the land with a conservation outlook. Your channel is a breath of fresh air and coming from the UK its changed my opinion of farming in your region of the USA. Keep it going fella.

Anything humans touch is considered modified because it now has human influence, all foods are gmo maybe not directly from a lab but there is no non-gmo foods.

What the sheeply aren't told or do they realize that GMO plants have been around for thousands of years. Do those who hate GMOs buy seedless grapes or watermelon? I bet they do. And that is just a tiny bit of what they should blatantly know is GMO. What about anything corn based? Corn has been modified a lot in the past few hundred years. Same with wheat and oats. Also most fruit.

If all you're growing is herbicide-tolerant bt corn and soy, you will not succeed indefinitely. Your soil will be dead, and your input costs will continue to rise. Your weeds and other pests will become increasingly resistant, you will incorporate dicamba-resistant HT soy, then the next HT corn. You'll have pests resistant to all the various Cry toxins. I don't like saying this to you, but you don't have a good long-term outlook. But I hope I am wrong, or that you can re-invent yourself as a farmer who can sustain his land and water for the long-haul.

I highly disagree with you about GMOs and my body was directly affected by agrichems. I've been feeling better since switching to Gluten-free food, and then later to mainly non-GMO and organic foods. Part of my family was multi-generational farmers who farmed in Europe and then here. On my mom's side, her dad was the last one, he passed away when she was a child from a brain tumor they said was caused from exposure to agri-chems, and that was back in the 40s-50s. My aunt has issues that might be linked to the chemical exposure, she lived on a farm and her late-husband was a farmer. He committed suicide after like a nervous breakdown, which they say the agri-chems can cause depression and other issues. If you're religious, God didn't say to be God or that man was God. God created what we needed, and we damaged it. What is our body made to eat? Think. Our species has been around a long time, and is acting self-destructive. The Earth changes in cycles naturally. If we tamper too much then we damage the natural cycle as well.

Im not a farmer but a soldier, so i have little to no knowledge about GMOs. Before i joined the navy i worked on a cattle farm, i know it's different. But it has givin me a good view on a farmers life. So i think i know a little what you farmers have to deal with every day. What you told about GMOs is very clear and i certainly don't see any danger in the use of GMOs. I have no idea how it's arranged in Europe (the Netherlands), but it has made me curious. And about Dr. Oz... He probably has his doctorate otherwise you don't call him a doctor, but does that make you an expert in agriculture? In my opinion it's the same when i as a technical specialist with the navy, have to explain to a pilot how to fly in an F35. People should have a little more confidence in the farmers. After all they also eat their own products they grow. Right?

I agree with that. GMOs and organic are the same to me. They both help feed the world. I know GMOs use a little less land if I'm not mistaken than organic. I'm not 100% on that , that is what I have been told in the past.

It's sad but anti GMO activists have decided fear is the best weapon in their arsenal. They pay for radical "studies" to try and prove a predetermined narrative such as GMO crops cause infertility. What could be scarier to consumers than being told you will lose your ability to have children. They tell people that eating GMO crops causes cancer, or that it will make your insides "leak". It's fear mongering in the most disgusting fashion.

what is more dangerous then gmo, is the labels organic and BIO. that raises price and noone is actually looking what is on label even tho it is completely the same as non bio product. same treatment. in some cases they use non gmo hybrid but spray the hell out of it. so...

The whole entire point of GMO is to take all the bad stuff out, and put good stuff in, if anything IS even added. Its literally to make the food BETTER for consumption, production, and sustainability.

We have been told a boatload of lies about so called "starving people" in the world. Any starvation going on was engineered and planned - just like all the wars have been - planned and carried out by politicians and corporatists and their obedient unquestioning order followers carrying out their agenda/ doing the dirty work for them. Why be part of the problem when you could be part of the solution as an organic farmer using permaculture methods to grow food???

There is PLENTY of credible science to show dangers of genetic engineering of food. Look up Institute for Responsible Technology. People in labs using "technology" have done more to mess up abundant food in Nature and human health with their so called "technology" and "miracle drugs" than anyone can shake a stick at. Jeffrey Smith's book is SEEDS OF DECEPTION. You should read it if you care about knowing the truth about your industry. There are always at LEAST two sides to every story.

To see proof GMOs are harmful, all you need to do is see how a person's health improves once they give up fake food with chemical isolate excitotoxin additives and genetically engineered ingredients and eat nothing but CLEAN pure water rich organic WHOLE food that is mostly raw fruit and raw veg as grown in Nature with very little cooked foods and no animal products a/k/a a species appropriate diet for a human frugivore.

If you give animals a choice between organic food or GMO food, they will always choose the organic food every time. That should say a LOT!

GMO"s are the same thing as playing with fire based off information from our "government". Please tell us, why do you believe government in this situation verses most others? Is it because you have a financial interest in GMO's so that makes them safe? This is just another example of greed, pure greed.

To all of the card carrying stump preaching organic liberals, we as farmers will quit utilizing GMO’s as soon as you present a viable solution to feed every kid in the world starting tomorrow without the help of any modern science or laboratory developed products.

O and by the way, this also means giving up your triple non-fat soy lathe at Starbucks because, wait for it, Starbucks pays coffee bean farmer of Central America to utilize GMO trees. This also means that half of the items on the shelf at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods will be going bye bye as well.

Lastly, get where your Tofu comes from, GMO soybeans. Do they tell you the beans used to make your tofu patties was raised by a farmer using GMO seeds? Nope, why because that means they sell less tofu!

Study after study tells us that the byproduct of GMOs is not good. GMO themselves have had little research on them and you saying they're okay based on using less pesticide is disingenuous. Most if all studies that said they were okay is from the manufacturers themselves.

My flag is hung correctly. There is a window behind it so to the rest of the world the stars are to the left!
