Images can be easily confused, and there are differences between the VT 5 and T15 (VT5 is primarily for export). However, the VT5 is closer to a traditional Main Battle Tank (MBT). Its composite armor on the turret can defend against 3BM42 rounds at a range of 1500m+. On the other hand, even with the Full Armor Ver. equipped with FY4 heavy ERA, the T15 turret cannot withstand 3BM42 rounds. The military intends to make the T15 resistant to 30/45/57mm medium-caliber cannons and anti-tank missiles. While the technology used may be similar, the design philosophies behind them are different.

In addition to ground pressure, the design of MBT also takes into consideration the values of armor and specific ground pressure (L/C). It is desirable to maintain a heavy weight while keeping the ground pressure low. One of the best solutions is to use a multi-purpose articulated tracked carrier chassis to distribute the weight and fully separate the driver's compartment from the ammunition compartment. This design allows for better weight distribution and improved crew safety.

During the design process, there was a discussion about why not choose a wheeled Tank Destroyer (wheeled light tank) with advanced fire control systems for the same operational requirements and objectives. Considering that China's border with India already has a well-developed highway network, why specifically develop a tracked light tank instead of opting for a wheeled Tank Destroyer that could potentially be more cost-effective in terms of cost, maintenance, and production? The 08 wheeled platform has already seen significant improvements in its latest versions.
