How to play Hearts (Card Game)

Confusing for anyone that doesn't know the game. The objectives should be taught first

This is the Black Lady variation. "Hearts" should only have hearts being the penalty suit.

In the version I played, if hearts have not been broken and the leader only has hearts, they still get to lead with their card of hearts (and hearts are broken from the lead).

In the UK we play a game called Rachael very similar game except we don't pass cards and the queen of spades is 10 points ace of hearts is 5 points king 4 you get the picture total points on the table is 33

Quick question: You say "However, if a player has no clubs when the first trick is led, a heart or the queen of spades cannot be discarded." To whom does this rule apply, and across which duration? If a player has no clubs when the first trick is led, can nobody discard hearts or the queen of spades for the remainder of the hand, or does this rule only apply during the first trick of each hand and no other time throughout the game?

Alright so let's say someone leads with a 10 of spades and the last trick played is a 10 of diamonds who wins? The 10 of spades because it was played first?

just read hearts in Atlantis and wanted to learn this game because apparently, i didn't learn anything.

I remember a variation/house rule for 3 person hearts where the jokers are included and can be high or low, depending on the goal of the trick, without dropping the 2 of diamonds, which still leads. Sometime known as local "Jailhouse" rules, because so many people could not afford bail in the late 80s and 90s that they would end up in jail for several months waiting for trails. Games of skill like chess and checkers, even "bidding" card games were allowed, but no money was allowed to change hands. Kept people sane. And remember some of these people were still awaiting indictments from grand juries, let alone charged, but not found guilty of anything. Makes it problematic with some efforts to charge people money for holding them in jail, as they then become on the hook for being held.

I'm still confused.

In an alternative version, hearts of 5-10 are worth 10pts, the jack of hearts is 20, the queen of hearts is 30, the king of hearts is 40 and the ace of hearts is 50. The queen of spades is 100, the jack of diamonds is -100 (meaning you want to win it) and the 10 of spades is x2 the points no matter positive or negative, and -50 is the player who wins it has won no point cards (getting +100 then -100 does not count)

Thank you thank you thank you for stating the actual objective of the game. Too many naive guides say the object is to take the fewest points, which is just not true. At the advanced level, you will intentionally take points to stop moon attempts, make a critical lead, or save the high player from going out while you are not in first place.

I have no idea what trick in this context means... If a player has no clubs when the first trick is led, they can't play queen of spades or heart. Is trick the very first card of the entire game? as in 2 clubs? Or is trick the first card laid out for each round, and the 2nd player can't play those cards, but the third and 4th player can, because obviously at some point, a player can play those cards out of suit...


This isn't really a how to play, this is just a listing of rules. How to play would be describing why you would play certain cards over others.

I need more card example, l still don't know that sorry.
