Raised Catholic, I learned at an early age not to trust the word "Christian." There are too many people, too many institutions hiding behind that word. Lilia's story is an extreme example, but there are so many people who wear the label like it gives them some kind of automatic validity, and a free pass to impose their personal choices on others. It's not a CV, not a license. Just do it, and stick to the basics please. That should keep you busy enough that you don't have time to talk about it.

Hi Lilia, I am moved by your talk and understand the situation you experienced. I write commentary about the reality of cults and the need for all people to recognize the equality of men and women, even to the degree if a family has two school aged children, a girl and boy and only enough funds to send one child to school, then that family should send the girl because she will be the first teacher of her children. So, an educated mother is the saving grace for all cultures to establish justice, peace, love, and unity within the family, the community and ultimately the nation. Lilia, once again thanks for your commitment to educate the world about your cult experience.

She is surely mistaken abuse happens in every family and every community religious or non-religious it has nothing to do witha cult, a cult. This talk is mislabeled. It is how to escape abuse it should be called how to escape abuse not how to live. Leave a cult or I grew up in a cult. Religion is the poison killing this world. My church's response to questions I had about the bible was to have me focus on the fear of the suffering I would endure after dying. Islam and Judaism do not seem much better.

it is common for survivors to tolerate a lot of abuse towards them selves, but mess with some one they hold precious, the protective rage comes out.

I'm glad she portrayed this community the way she did. A community that seems loving, close knit, with strong values... And behind that shiny facade is endless child abuse and vicious control.

I see too many people praise communities similar to this (like the amish or the mormons) saying things along the line of "yeah they have strange beliefs but look at them, they got their life together, the children are well behaved, they live from their land" and so on and so forth. These people need to understand that on the inside, these communities are deeply rotten and built on human suffering. They need to stop idealising their "simple life". Because this idealised image is what gets people to join and get trapped.

The religious community, whether Christian, Muslim or Jewish, believes that they are right because they are cruel to those who are lesser than them because religion is like that, but humanity is stronger than that.
In the end, you are brave and thank God for helping you get out of this society and free yourself.
