Hi Guys, thank you for the great informative talk, I agree with most what's been said however there are few points no one is willing to address every time we talk about hairdressing.
Everyone teaches or Nags about lowering payroll, like its the only problem in our business model. We keep forgetting that the stylist is doing the work and they have families and expenses.
No one mentions the cost of the products that keeps increasing every year, we are an industry being taking hostage by big products corporations. I have nothing against those companies, they claim to help us however they control us. Their margins are huge hence the number of products lines out there.
The majority of education is about products and how to sell them, in fact all the training has been designed by big corporations mostly L'Oreal. Very few courses are about Financial business management and how to run a tight ship.
In my opinion to be successful in this industry, we need to know our numbers and being able to negotiate lower products cost and rent, that is why I refuse to lease, I own the space.
I guess the landscape has changed in the last 20 years, the clients visits went from weekly and mostly paying cash (no CC fees) to every 6 to 8 weeks for cuts to twice /year for balayage and lots of product usage and 98% pay with CC.
So yes, we need to keep payroll in check but everything else also too. How do we expect to pass on this industry to new generations and explain to them that they have to make less money?
Who’s are you speaking for ? Who’s says stylist don’t save ? U can’t speak for everyone. Franco
