Having my water broken made the pain ten times worse but that’s just me

I really do not want to have a crochet hook shoved in my uterus. I would probably kick them... I've heard it hurts a lot.

When I was in labor, it lasted a week and I was barely dilating. I thought maybe pooping would easy the pain. I pushed so hard I popped my water! At first i thought i passed my mucus plug a second time but when i didnt stop trickling, i knew my water had broken. That's when things started getting really intense. After about 30 minutes, I was asking to go back to the hospital, my mom packed up the hotel room (I needed unlimited hot water and her house had too small a tank) as quickly as she could and drove me to the hospital, which was an hour away. We got there and about an hour or two after getting to the ward, they gave me the epidural. Sweet, sweet relief after a week without sleeping more than 30 minutes. I slept for who knows how many hours and then the doctor told me to start pushing and explained how to push, and after 4 pushes in 9 minutes, baby was out.

My water was broken without my consent or knowledge.

Well… I was progressing very slowly, and the midwife was having another routine dilation and it just got more and more intensely painful. I told her to stop, I was struggling to get her to stop, calling out for my husband to make her stop, but she wouldn’t. I felt so betrayed when my husband said, “Bae, let her do it”.😏

My heart sank and I felt so helpless and hopeless in that moment. 😒

Well, afterwards, my dilation progressed really quickly afterwards. The doctor had sue asked that I be processed for a C-section but that water break saved me. 😅

I just wish I was forewarned, informed or at least told what was happening and why. 😅

I’m a first time mom, due Monday, and induction turning into c section scares me. I was wondering if they actually NEED to break my water or if i had a right to say no, and this video answered all my questions! I’m so happy i watched this i feel better going into it

I had to have my amniotic sack broken by the doctor. It was so ugly and prolonged, they couldn’t break it and they scratched up my baby’s head in the process. In the end, none of it mattered and it led to an emergency c section…

I had my water broken after being with 5 cm for 2 WEEKS (YES, 2 WEEKS). After that everything progressed just fine, had my baby 4 hours later. No regrets!!

I was in labor 2 hours after breaking my water but i wish I tried to naturally have my water break because I was doing great at 7cm didn’t feel any bad pains till after they broke my water I was crying for an epidural after 20 minutes. So I feel like if I would’ve waited and tried other positions I could’ve gone natural and had the full experience. ☺️💜 all in all I still had an amazing birth experience.

Why hasn’t she talked about a scheduled cesarean?????

I wish I knew so many more things with my first pregnancy. This is exactly what happened to me. Water was broken and baby's oxygen dropped. In for a c section. I felt so rushed. Hoping this experience is better and that being more informed is helpful

I'm 40 weeks in 2 days with baby #3, and my midwife scheduled me for an induction on that day, she wants to break my water and let me walk around to try and start it. She says she doesn't want to use pictocin until after I walk around for a few hours after breaking my waters.

Gonna ask her to check me again before we continue with it, I was 2.5cm and 50% a week ago, so I'm hoping I'm further along. Trying my best to go into labor naturally before my induction!

Today i am 39 week started and my water broke in 8 am Friday but my dr send me home said me to come back Saturday morning 7 am she said your labour will started in the morning

Getting my water broken was the BEST decision for me. I was 8 cm for a long time, and the midwife could tell the baby was very close to the cervix. I remember feeling so relieved when it broke, and she was born within the next 2 hours.

I was dilated to 10, 100% effaced, and station +3. Staff freaked because I progressed quickly and external monitors weren't working, so they artificially ruptured my membranes without my consent

Wish they wouldn't have as there was no reason except for their panic and overreliance on external monitoring. I would have loved to be able to have a photo of my baby being born en caul. Even though the hospital here doesn't allow photos during birth lol

I was stuck at 3cm for over 24hrs with intense contractions. I couldn’t handle it anymore, I was exhausted and wasn’t progressing. My dr. Broke my water and STILL wasn’t progressing. It was so exhausting😭

Thank you for this whole series. I had cholestias and decreased fetal movement so my care provider decided to induce since both the baby and I were at risk. It was not in my birth plan to be induced, however, when I was first diagnosed with cholestias, I knew that it was likely that this would cause a need for inductoon. To prepare I watched this series, which I am so glad I did, because my body did not respond to the misoprostol and first round of pitocin, so we used cervidil, a second of pitocin and broke my water. Having knowledge about all of these procedures and understanding that it was medically necessary really helped me when I started to get discouraged that we were not able to follow my birth plan. Though the last hour of labor was a true test of physically mindset and endurance when it came time to push thanks to your videos I had the knowledge and skills to push my beautiful baby girl out in less than 30 minutes and entered a very trance like state, where I was zeroing in on the need to push and blocking out all other pain. Though the only thing that went according to my birth plan was having a vaginal birth, I was still able to have a very positive birth experience thanks to my wonderful care providers and the knowledge I obtained from your videos.

This is how I had my son. I was not ready for the change in intensity of the labor. The thing that scared me the most during my labor was that I couldn’t stop shaking, it was completely uncontrollable. Once he was out I immediately had relief of all pain and shaking and I finally felt “normal” again.

After I watched your video and knowing what actually it is and if it is really necessary for me or not, I have decided to wait to get it done for now. My water was leaking before I arrived at the hospital. They ruptured my water at 5 cms and 5 minutes later I was fully dilated and had my baby 3 pushes later

Hi! Could you possibly make a video regarding patient rights? I’m just so overwhelmed with what we can say yes or no to and would love if you could make something regarding that.

One time I have given birth with waters broken early & the other with no intervention. There is a big difference! The waters broken makes baby's hard head press on cervix you can feel it. I pushed him out fast in a few pushes because nothing is stopping the baby. I tore that time 4th degree . The next one I didn't want that to happen lol. I didn't allow any internal checks in labor until I felt ready to push. My baby took probably about an hour to push out, because the waters cushioned his head. My dr was getting pissed. I told her to calm down. I trusted the process. He was born fully "en caul" in the sack☺️

En caul births are cool. We shouldn’t need to artificially break the amniotic sac. Babies know of the perfect time to be born. They’ll come out exactly how they want to come out. You can give birth vaginally to a baby still in the amniotic sac. People tend to be too nervous about these “due dates” doctors give. Babies can be born past 40 weeks and be completely fine!

I had my waters broken at 5cm after being in early back labor for 5 days...it was the right thing for me and finally got me progressing. I wouldn't have been able to stick to my natural birth plan if not for it so I am thankful! It turns out I had Polyhadramnios that was not letting me progress and causing horrible back labor

Wish I had this before I gave birth in June! I was in prolonged labor & knew of some of the risks of breaking my waters. I was too scared of infection so I asked that that would be the last step we took in progressing my labor. I ended up needing a hospital transfer from my birth center because of fetal heart distress & a cervical lip after my water was broken. My dreams of an unmedicated birth went out the window. Thanks be to God I was able to push her out after an epidural after 54 hrs of labor!

2 weeks till induction with my twins 😭. The doctor says they will break my waters at 2 cm and give me pitocin. It sounds terrible and horrifying 😢

Thank u, thank u, thank u. I only wish this information was available to me before I had my “emergency c-section”, which was 6 weeks ago :( I knew it wasn’t necessary! Cause I tried so hard to cultivate a natural birth right up until the end!

I wish I had saw this video two months ago 😫 attempted VBAC, everything was going great, checked in at hospital with bulging bag, 6cm and contractions every 2 minutes... barely checked in and they were pushing so hard to break my water and start pitocin. The nurse word for word said I needed to “poop or get off the pot” needless to say, I caved to both and ended up with a c-section again 😔

I love watching your videos. I've learned alot and your content is very helpful. I've given birth 3 times and also due December 22nd with baby #4 (2 inductions, 1 natural) my water was broken for me all 3 times and I never had any complications and 3 very quick labors/deliveries.

My midwife broke my membranes with her finger, she told me my baby would come out as soon as she did and no joke he was born in 6 min.
She said I could have been contracting for an hour or two more if she had not done that, is this accurate? And if I my baby happened to stay in the sac would the delivery be more painful or risk of severe tearing?
Has anyone expirenced this?

I ask because I was not in favorable position in the birthpool when this happened and I asked to change but everything happened so fast and I ended up tearing and feeling alot more trauma from this birth than before.
I do not blame the breaking of waters for this, I wish someone would have turned me. But I have always been curious what it would have been like if my baby happened to be birthed in the sac still?
( and had I been in the position I expressed just before)

I wish I wouldn’t have let my doctor break my water with my second baby. I showed up the hospital 9cm and it was a “busy day” and I was the furthest along. While still a 9 he broke my water and immediately had me start pushing. My son was born within 30 min but it was unbelievably painful. I expressed hesitation with breaking it but they almost pressured me into it. Never felt the urge to bear down and instead it felt like I was forcing my baby out.

My midwife ruptured my membranes when I was in labor, at probably around 9cm. I was exhausted and she suggested it to speed up the end of my labor. It worked out fine, but next time I would probably just let it happen naturally.

From my latest birth and first induction (the other 2 were natural/not induced) I would not suggest having them break your water unless you want the pain to go from 0 to 100 in the shortest amount of time. I wish I had know that ot was going to happen I would have said no and kept it going as I was.

I wish i knew about this before my delivery. I had a traumatic experience including c-section because my so called care providers didnt follow my birth plan and played on my ignorance. Bridget your doing a fantastic job educating people like me who dont know all these fancy terminologies and to be prepared for all the scenarios. Yah bless your soul. This is right on time. I'm being induced at 9am on 12/1 and I've been so nervous because this isn't what I planned.
