There’s a definite biased sentiment in this reporting, Yes more people are out of work but there’s still plenty of opportunity for anyone looking for work with support from the council, community, church groups, charities. Lots of avenues for help if you want to look. I live in Scotland and an Scottish born Chinese and I’ve not experienced anything untoward. It's only in extraordinary situation that USA will give someone political asylum at embassy aboard. So of course USA would not grant asylum to some nobodies. Not sure why that is so hard to understand. For example, granting Stalin's daughter an asylum at the Tokyo Embassy was an exception, not the rule, and any Russians who thought they could get asylum by rushing into the US Embassy in Moscow would be completely mistaken.

Hong Kong has no fresh water supply. It cannot provide its own food supply either. If Hong Kong separated itself from China, some other country would have to assume this role. Before you recommend desalinization of sea water, you should know that this option has been deemed financially impossible. Before "leaping" into something, one should be aware of the consequencies. The English voting for "Brexit" was an example.
