Automatic transmissions have valves. Manual transmissions have real gears.

I watched this twice and still don't know what you're talking about. I had to look in the comments to get the intended message,
"Buy an older, RAV 4." Ok. Thank you.

I rented a 2023 Toyota Corolla hatchback for four months in Alaska – worst transmission ever. The car had a severe delay (lag) when taking off from a stop. Always felt vague, and this car only had a few miles on it when I first rented it. I've never been so happy to return home to 'Roberta,' my 2000 Chevrolet 5.3L V8 4x4 Suburban. With nearly 300,000 miles on the odometer, my only fears are the drunks, dopes and ding-dongs...

Scotty, Toyota and Ford hybrids have eCVT transmission. Not quite the same as CVT. I sold a 2009 Camry hybrid with over 260k miles. Transmission has never been issue with that car. Piston rings failure was only issue.

Also, currently still have 2010 Ford fusion hybrid 195k+ miles still going strong. No piston ring issues and with a similar eCVT transmission.

OK, I stopped at seven minutes. Scotty seems to have stopped working on cars. The Toyota CVT's are really good ones. The have been used on the Prius for so many years, and you just do not hear about problems with them. And Toyota has taken the knowledge gained from the Prius and applied that knowledge to Camry's and Corrollas. They have been doing this for a few years now. And they are fine. The Rav4 has had a few problems, but Toyota seems to have them fixed now. I certainly agree that they are not 'heavy duty' transmissions, but they are proving themselves to be very good, like you would expect from Toyota and Lexus. They are certainly lasting as long as 'regular' transmissions in the Toyota line. While I have heard some ill things about the Subaru CVT's, my mother and father have those CVT's in their Foresters and both have over 200k miles on them and they have NEVER had any issues with them. Obviously, two is not a very huge sampling, but they seem to be all right.... But neither the Prius nor the Forester and going to be hauling a 24 ft 6,000lb trailer across the country on your summer vacation. You get a Tundra or Sequoia for that....

IN MY OPINION AND EXPERIENCED...MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS FAR BETTER THAN AUTO...BEC. MANUAL LESS GAS CONSUMPTION....AND IF U WANT TO DRIVE LIKE FAST AND THE FURIOUS...U CAN HAVE BETTER RPM.

Hi, Please note that an eCVT is entirely different than a CVT. Agreed, a traditional CVT is belt-drive car with variable diameter sheaves. Horrible and unreliable. Toyota hybrid drive does not have CVT's. They use a planetary gear set with two motors. A beautifully-elegant engineering solution and incredibly reliable.

I love 5 speed stick shift. The only reason I ever bought a car or truck with an automatic transmission is because my current or past girlfriends can't drive a car with a standard transmission and unwilling or afraid to learn. If I ever get another car it'll have a stick shift.

I got burnt once and never again with a Nissan 2011 Cube Cvt fail at 106,000 miles plus two CVT fluid drained & refill! In 2018 a factory rebuild cost me $3500! My wife always had Rav 4 2008 now a 2019 Rav 4 never had any trans problems.

We have a 2014 RAV4. We changed the "lifetime" fluid at 100K miles. We now almost have 200K miles. And will be changing the fluid again at 200K miles. Note, to change the fluid in these things isn't cheap. Not as simple as a simple drain and refill like on the dipstick toyota transmissions in previous years. With that said, it can be done for under $350. And money well spent. This is the last generation of "old" Toyota as I call it. Everything from 2018 onwards is different....

I've been saying it for a long time now; there's no such thing as "lifetime" transmission fluid. What Toyota meant is that when the fluid goes bad and burns up your transmission, that's the lifetime of your transmission, and if you don't replace the trans, that's also the lifetime of your vehicle
