Hello Steven. I found your video by happy accident. To cut a long story short, I made it my mission to visit the second house in Kamiichi when I finally got back to Japan in April. I decided to bite the bullet and have signed the purchase contract. (To be finalized in December when I return.) Absolutely beautiful location and the house is beautiful, albeit needing a tonne of work. It will be my labour of love and a VERY long-term project! Thank you for the inspiration! :)
ОтветитьMy advice for those who are desperately trying to buy a house, but cannot aford one in your home country, do not hesitate; go to japan, with your family or without and get one of those akiya and renew it DIY, so you will save a bunch. You need some sort of job though. People say english teachers are still needed, or any other job you can do. It is difficult though, you need to get a residence permit and a job permit. But if you are sick and tired of life expenses, like in Canada, then japan is your next option. You need a change of mind, I mean, open mind.
ОтветитьWould love to invest in projects like this. Thanks for showing your process.
Ответитьこんにちは❤🇯🇵🍣🏠
ОтветитьI’d buy one and move there today, if they’d give me a visa
ОтветитьThe problem with old houses is earthquake resistance and insulation.
Older homes may not be able to withstand large earthquakes.😅
beautiful and much like WA state (US) in terms of weather.
ОтветитьJapanese countryside are heavenly ❤
Ответитьis it just me or every traditional house in jp has sad vibe to it
ОтветитьKonnichiwa! How much property tax for old house?
ОтветитьThe 2nd house looks like there could be Yokai lurking at night 😟 怖い!
ОтветитьHi Steven, What are the requirements for foreigners for buying house in Japan? Or is there any websites to check on regarding buying akiya properties. Thanks.
ОтветитьI like it
ОтветитьHow are the Internet connections to these homes? I work from home and do online gaming so I'd love to know how easy it is to get a strong Internet connection after moving in. Thx 😊
ОтветитьThank you for sharing! Great video ✨😉👍
ОтветитьThe first house visited seems to me to be in much better condition than the second house. The 2nd house seemed to have suffered some water damage, also it not being connected to the sewage system is definitely a red flag, unless one doesn’t mind an outhouse indoors. From my perspective.
Ответить🇯🇵☦❤⚾️
Ответить🤗 Namaste
ОтветитьA little sad though that some of this traditional houses are going to be torn down by tourists.
Ответитьthese houses are so beautiful, they give off a calm sensation, a good isolation from the noise. My dream would be to get a job that can be done from everywhere and just live in an house like this.
ОтветитьYou buy something and years later you learn the town will demolish the old buildings to build anew.
ОтветитьIt is my understanding that you cannot own property in Japan unless you have a Japanese passport or you are married to a Japanese. Correct me if incorrect.
Ответитьbuy both, marry twice & fill them both with people ;)
& good luck to you!
Seeing what you can buy in Japan for 4k actually makes me violently enraged at how absolutly screwed up the housing market is in Canada and how its impossible for first time home buyers to find anything that wont indebt them the rest of their lives.
ОтветитьIt might look good but owning a house doesn't mean you can live in Japan, you still need a visa
ОтветитьI kept expecting Toshio to enter the frame
ОтветитьI love how the 'old school' train station looks so modern compared to any infrastructure here in country Australia lol
ОтветитьThis make me really sad to see so much culture and history is just left to rot and be reclaimed by the elements.
But then again ignoring the basics comes with a price.
The future of all nations that prioritize greed(money) over their future(children)
yeah i mean living in japan is currently not the most attractive thing to do as i heard...
apparently the education is quite harsh, the working environment is close to abuse, and plently of other things, but if the buying price was all about it, then it'd be a living utopia for a vacation home.
but i think the money you need to put into renovation will be quite high. and what's even more, are they even sound and headproof? because japanese summers...
i can't say for sure as i'm not that deep in this matter, but. i assume it's sometimes cheaper to build a new house...
and i'm pretty sure there are architects who design a house that is fitting the modern luxury requirements like heat and sound proof, but also fitting the traditional machiya style.
but hey, i'm only complaining, in the end if you wanna buy a house here in germany, it'd be 100 million yen, so... i think compared to that we're still good. :D
So interesting !
ОтветитьI think I would personally ovoid both of them especially the second one. where there is give in the floor especially a wooden structure best leave alone, you can tighten a floor but difficult to do the whole structure. I would also reconsider living by the river, looks nice but you could have serious damp issues especially if the land lies low to the river ie rising damp for most of the year. As for the Japanese knotweed it's there for a reason 'moisture' another good reason why I would avoid those houses. The best method is the old fashioned way of finding a location by compass diameter and work out traveling time within 1/2hr from transport. That way you will get to see how many things it can offer within the circles radius. good luck.
ОтветитьAre there restrictions on demolition for re use? Are the roof tiles high quality

It comes with sadako 😂
ОтветитьThe first home was better the second home will need ALOT of work
ОтветитьThe first house looks like it has flooding problems.
ОтветитьI love that retro train even though it has leaky windows!
ОтветитьVery annoying mask that you can't talk through, constantly lifting up your nose. Nice video...
