Put a cover on that hot water bottle and chuck it in your sleeping back, keeps the feet warm for hours.

My tip would be to make sure you're not planning on using butane for heat or cooking if you know it'll be cold. It won't work below a couple degrees C due to its relatively high boiling point

I run a Zippo hand warmer in my jacket, runs on lighter fluid and goes for about 12hrs, refillable and keeps me really warm. They also make electric ones that are usb rechargeable (haven't tried one yet). Electric heated jackets also look like a good idea.

Hi Brenno the 12v, electric blanket I've got runs off a cigarette plug it's 4 years old n still going until I install my diesel heater n there's another idea, is the only heating I have as I live in a 70s, toyota coaster in tassie you can also get a 12v, electric top or travel blanket shiploads we're selling them a while ago run a battery flat in30 Min, n melt the wire no good, n too dear n yes I'm a tight arse as I'm a pensioner the Australian spec , under blanket electric blanket has a pressure switch in it so it doesn't come on until you lay down so I lay a large bag of clothes on the bed 20 Min before I go to bed n I'm getting into a warm bed that way and I wouldn't have said about it unless I new it would sell besides I'm so confident when you get them in send 1 to 4wd suppa centre lampton ave, hobart so I can buy it so give 4x4 27 crew a mystery box of them n send em some where cold n there's half your advertising done besides I want see the look on Shaun's face when he finds out how good they are no more cold swag just warm n toasty cheers Dave h,

I did a camel trek in the middle of June across SA about 25 years ago and it was my first time using a swag . It was a basically a sheet of canvas with a foam mattress and a sleeping bag 🥶🥶🥶 we had made a camp fire and then we found a big log so we dragged it on to the Fire 🔥🔥 I had wet socks from walking in a puddle so I put my wet socks at the very end of the long log and forgot about them . The next morning I got up The log had 🔥burned all the way along and had burnt my socks as well 🙄 so that was the running Joke at the next camp site 🤣

Wrap that hot water bottle in a towel or other cover, put it in your bed, & it will stay warm all night! Yes, low tech - but low cost, low power consumption, super comfortable on a cold night!

Not sure I'll do the warm coals under the chain thing. That to me will spread coal dust all over the place unnecessarily and/or create many burn marks on the camp sites. Particularly if on a grassy field.

I camp in the UK where i live and i went on a 4x4 Safari in the North of England. The night before, i camped in Scotland using my Kings Big Daddy Swag and Kings Awning. During the night it dropped to -10c/14f and when i woke in the morning it was still -5c/23f. The inside of my Swag was covered in Ice from condensation and my fingers were sticking to the Awnings Ali poles. I brushed as much Ice out of the Swag as i could but because of the cold it took twice as long to strike camp. I travelled home that night but because of rains i couldn't unpack my Swag and Awning to Air them off. Two weeks later the Swag and awning had started going mouldy. I have cleaned both bits of kit off since but because of the lock down i haven't had the chance to use them since. Incidentally, i had a good 4x4 Safari driving around Keilder Forest in the UK but that was the last time i properly got away thanks to Covid.

Electric blanket 12v low power draw a big tick. Zippy hand warmer or two they go all day on one fill,
3m sq marquee easy to put up lots of shelter during the day and night. Big tick to thermals and oil skin padded vest means you are never cold.
Good post keep it up

Camped near a river in the winter and it rained and the water went straight through the tent and ruined all the sleeping bag. Had to sleep in car with no ac was absolutely terrible. Pick you spot to setup carefully.

Clear starry nights certainly is the dream now because it won't stop raining :( We did a quick vid on the same subject a few weeks back and the hot water bottle is a real cracker when you want to be warm and snug in your sleeping bag. As we also go out in a motorhome we also had a look at gas heating which can make life nice and comfy on a freezing cold night (just make sure the area you use it in is well ventilated for safety.)

Did a similar thing. Piled up too many coals underneath the camp stretcher. Sweated like a pig all night.
Had to pry the swag from the stretcher the next morning. Good times!
