His voice in his prime during the movie and the setting shot on location in what was the former Judea where it all took place is amazing. It likens Jesus and the Apostles to the youth and counterculture/hippies of the late 1960's and early 70's (when the rock opera was composed) looking for meaning in life and following gurus of the day, with music of the day from Andrew Lloyd Webber and the incredible lyrics of Tim Rice.
ОтветитьMr. Neeley is still rocking this song as of 2023. Not sure about 2024...Glorious Musical...watch the movie.
ОтветитьYou should react to John Farnham from the Australian cast and his version of Gethsemane. His performance is second to none.
ОтветитьTed Neely is THE BEST! He did this on stage for decades.
Watch the 1973 Original Rock Opera movie! PERFECTION.😊❤
This is done, when he is older, PLEASE watch the ORIGINAL MOVIE!🙏💖🎵🌹
ОтветитьPowerful
ОтветитьYou need to watch the movie from 1973!!! Ted Neely in this song and Carl Anderson in every song are insanely good.
The passion in their performances in the movie…simply amazing.
Not to take away anything from Ted Neeley's performance, I saw the original and loved it, it was wonderful, but Dan Vasc's version outshines this vocally and performance-wise.
ОтветитьDid you know Ted Neeley was in Django?
ОтветитьTed Neeley sang this this yr. He’s 80 yrs old & I am floored by how he can still make the hairs on my arm stand up.
TED NEELY is a miracle.
please do the film ,,,,
ОтветитьIt's been so many years thank you for doing this he still sings this I can't even imagine but he still sings this
ОтветитьShould have listened to him from before he was in his 80s.... he's still amazing now but there's nothing like listening to and watching it from the movie
ОтветитьI loved the movie with Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson and Yvonne Elliman. I was so lucky to see him live in the 90's with a touring company.
ОтветитьYou don't get the full impact of the song/message here. You have to watch the 1973 movie, especially the part where he turns his back on the audience. I grew up watching it and it took me a long, long time to get used to the other two versions I also have on DVD, which I love just as much. I highly recommend the three movies: the Ted Neeley original from 1973, Great Performances S29/Ep11 Jesus Christ Superstar in 2000 with Glenn Carter as Jesus, and 2012's Jesus Christ Superstar: Live Arena Tour with Ben Forster as Jesus, Tim Minchin as Judas, and the former Spice Girl Melanie C. as Mary Magdalene. Maybe because I was already familiar with Tim Minchin I find myself focusing more on Judas in the Live Arena show than Jesus. There's another version called Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert in 2018 with John Legend as Jesus and Alice Cooper. Haven't gotten around to seeing that one.
ОтветитьPlease listen to Steve Balsamo sing this song , you will be blown away. , he is better singing this song. than this man , please listen you will blown away , this man is not as good !!
ОтветитьNeeley is good, but no one beats Dan Vasc! He's the G.O.A.T! Neeley doesn't make me cry. Dan makes me cry every time I hear him sing Gethsemane!
ОтветитьPerformance, fantastic. Story, bullshit.
ОтветитьChristian here -
Love JCSuperstar, grew up listening to my parents' record of the original studio album. It's great rock.
But the theology isn't too Biblical and the Jesus character is weaksauce. He's kind of a puss. The "bad guys" are very well written, tho.
John Farnham sings this when it was in Australia. His version will always be the best.
ОтветитьYou need to hear the original album with him , what a powerful music.
Ответитьcheck out the 1996 version with steve balsamo
Ответитьcheck out the 1996 version with steve balsamo
ОтветитьI feel terror inside when I watch Ted Neely sing this song. I literally feel scared about what Jesus knows he's going to endure. I'm not even religious and I am so moved by Ted Neely's rendition of this song. In the pit of my stomach I feel the fear.
ОтветитьInspired by
Claudio Monteverdi's madrigal
"Lamento della Ninfa"
Check it out!
I always love how he asks God to watch him die and yet God has to look away so Jesus can die.😢❤
ОтветитьYou got a NO frome me just because I cannot understand a guy like you , listening FOR THE FIST TIME! That's all.
ОтветитьYou’re seeing Ted Neely from our stage and him being very old for this. You need to see him in the 1973 movie.
ОтветитьPeople may not realise this but on stage on Broadway and in the first LP, the original singer for Jesus was the lead singer for Deep Purple. Ted Neely was the understudy at the time but the film is a masterpiece. Filmed in Israel.(when Israel wasn’t so bloody nasty) and as many has said here, you need to see the film. Ciao PS: Ted Neely was here in Italy three times 4 the reenactment of Jesus Christ Superstar. The Italians were wall-to-wall including priests including nons I was in shock. I am not Italian by the way. I just worked here. Oh, and one interesting event Ted Neely met the Pope. Just some interesting thing I had to say ciao.
ОтветитьThe original Jesus Christ superstore album with Ian Gillan Singing the part of Jesus is the best version. I personally was not very happy about the Ted Neely version. Ian was the lead singer for Deep Purple and also for Black Sabbath for a while. He did an amazing job on this album!!
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьI wonder if you would do reactions to scenes from Musicals from the forties and fifties.
One if my favorite scene is:
I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise - American In Paris
On this channel
tubeornotube
I still prefer Ian Gillan's rendition from the original album. Neeley speaks too much of the music, and he chews the scenery big-time. I also don't like that they made Jesus look like a zombie.
ОтветитьYou should have seen him in his prime!
ОтветитьSo he was 63 here impressive
ОтветитьThis song hits me hard every time!
ОтветитьTed Neely is still performing at 80! Please view Steve Balsamo as Jesus from the end of the 1990's. There are several You Tube videos that showcase his talent 😊❤😊
ОтветитьTed Neeley was great in this but you need to her Ian Gillian in the original album that we all listened to before the stage play ever existed. Ian brought me back.
ОтветитьWent to the mid 1990's live show they were fantastic ,You need to see the 1973 movie Ted Neeley,Carl Anderson
ОтветитьComo esta version en vivo .y ted con unos cuantos años encima .es espectacular.❤
ОтветитьTed Neeley...no one better JESUS 🙏👏👏👏👏CHRIST SUPERSTAR ❤
ОтветитьI had the Jesus Christ Superstar album as a teen I must have listened to it 100’s of times. This is not my favorite version but the words seem real.
ОтветитьI recommend you to listen Camilo Sesto's spanish version of this song. Is really amazing.
ОтветитьPlease watch Steve Balsamos version, the one he's dressed in white. This is preschool compared to his
ОтветитьThis song, the version in the movie is much better. You should have watched that instead.
ОтветитьThe cast was so mesmerized because Ted had refused to sing this in all the rehearsals. This was the first time for them too. That's why the reaction from the cast. They were as enthralled as the audience.
ОтветитьСлушал, именно слушал киноверсию JCS уже после оригинальной. Не впечатлило. Совсем другая музыка, совсем другие голоса и даже другие ноты. Бледная тень оригинала.
ОтветитьGood, but not Dan Vasc. :)
ОтветитьTed Neeley!!!
Please watch the movie. It is so awesome.
Since 1973 he's been performing this and he nails it every time, you really should watch the original movie. The whole cast are amazing
