This is delightfully mean - this has filled my schadenfreude requirements for at least the rest of the weekend >:)

I knew about the step counter thing because I discovered it accidentally back around the time of the release. I saved in the Mansion while poisoned with only 1 mon left. When I reloaded, I noticed it took 4 steps to get damaged...and I used it to escape the mansion without blacking out. I only needed to do it for about 5 minutes...but still.

But if you escape, you still have only1 pokemon with explosion, no money and you will always lose all the battles.

Now I'm trying to imagine this in-universe with some introverted kid just slowly cycling while holding the brakes and stopping to write in a diary every 5 metres or so.

By making the player name the max number of characters, instead of saying "Asprey saved the game" you can make it take longer to display the other characters

If you still have the key items in the PC wouldn't fishing work? You could get a water type pokemon in cinnabar, then teach it surf and reach the main land this way

What is the lowest sum of money any one of the trainers gives you on Cinnebar? What is the cheapest item you could find in one of the pokeballs in the manson? It would be devious to leave both of these options, if possible, so the player spends time looking, finds them with some hope of getting out, but alas they can't.

And even if you manage to get out of cycling road, how on earth the game is playable? You only have one exxegutor with explosion and no money!

Did you know that the Cycling Path flag (which prevents you from using Surf) is not reset, when you delete your save file with Select + Up + B? The byte containing this flag is explicitely excluded from the deletion routine, because it also holds a debugging flag (which is never set by normal gameplay). The Cycling Path flag can be cleared by entering and leaving the Cycling Path again.

In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum: Go to Route 226 with a weak Pokémon with Rock Climb, and a low level Finneon. There, you’ll find a body of water with a house, go inside, and you’ll find a Hiker who will give you a French Magikarp for a Finneon. If you don’t have any fishing rods, you’ll be stuck on that small island if you save the game.
