Linux is a Unix-like OS. Modern Macs are a Mac-like Unix, that’s slowly diverged and evolved over the decades.
Ответитьits unix
ОтветитьThe ff are you talking about? Mac is called linux because use posix, grandfather for all os basic on UNIX
ОтветитьMacOS is NexT, and NexT was based on Unix.
ОтветитьUnix/Linux and MacOS are the same in the way a Ford and a Chevy are the same. They both have wheels, an internal combustion engine, seats, suspension, etc. But they aren't the same.
ОтветитьBSD. NOT LINUX
ОтветитьHere’s a Linux article I put together to help out beginners. I’ve kept it crisp and focused on clearing the basics in the best way possible. If you’re new to the terminal or just curious, give it a read over, the link is in my bio.
ОтветитьI'm Linux my tablet broked
Ответитьthere are other linux's than ubuntu, puppy os and fedora for example arch linux, kali linux, pop os and linux mint
Ответитьand macOS is not open source like iso downloads or smth like this it’s closrd
ОтветитьMac is more based off of BSD
ОтветитьObnoxious
ОтветитьLinux and Mac have the same teacher, Windows is homeschooled
Ответить"Linux is not really an operating system". Wtf?
ОтветитьMacOS is based of BSD Unix. Cannot remember which flavour.
ОтветитьLet’s not forget that Linux stands for “Linux Is Not UniX”
ОтветитьAnyone who says macs are just Linux never tried running any Linux distro on an apple silicon mac
ОтветитьMac is a mix of neXSTEP BSD, and unix and most linux distros are basically also that
ОтветитьJust so you know, you have a spelling mistake in the title. It's Macs, not Mac's. 'S is for possession. Just a normal plural is S. 😊
Look at John's mistake. These Johns keep making mistakes.
You can run Mac apps on Linux but a compatibility layer is required
Ответитьthey're not linux, its freebsd.
Ответитьpretty sure it's BSD '__') not linux
ОтветитьNo OS X is not based on Unix. Unix is based on BSD source(see USL v BSD and UC regents). FreeBSD is one of the BSD sources. Mach developed an independent micro kernel. Next merged Mach and BSD to create next step. Next step and MacOs carbon were joined to form OS X. Carbon has largely been replaced in OS X by Cocoa. GnuStep is an attempt to make XNU or any similar OS (Linux) into something like an early version of OS X. Open Group Single Unix Standard is what OSX conforms with, not Unix itself.
ОтветитьMacOS is not Linux, they just have some random similarities in terminal commands.
ОтветитьThey use their own kernel which is based on BSD
ОтветитьBSD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ответитьwhen ur gonna try arch with an hyprland rice ?
Ответить"Linux is not really an operating system"
Resists urge
"I'd just like to interject for a moment-"
(vsauce theme)
ОтветитьMacOS is Unix standard, and as some have said, actually BSD, not Linux
ОтветитьMac OS is UNIX (BSD family)! D£/\/\ @$$! 😂
Get your “facts” right!
Linux is based on minix (mini Unix)
And android is Linux too…
And a lot of Linux are not compatible!
MacOS is based on FreeBSD. Both linux, FreeBSD, MacOS, DOS, and windows all uses the POSIX command scheme meaning these operating systems use commands that have the same names and have similar functionality.
FreeBSD and Linux are completely different
That’s the only reason I ended up using Macs. Was big into red hat, and Ubuntu back in the early 2000’s, as well as FreeBSD. Once I heard about OSX being based off of a Unix kernel, it piqued my curiosity. I never liked Mac OS in general before then, personally.
ОтветитьLinux literally means - Linux Is Not UniX
ОтветитьLinux and Macs are distant cousins because their parents were sisters. 😅
ОтветитьSome similar POSIX between Mac and Linux so they share some APIs and shell interfaces. And MacOS was based off NextStep which got it’s foundational architecture from the Mach kernel which was developed at CMU. So Mac isn’t really Linux at all aside from sharing some POSIX standards.
ОтветитьPeople confidently proclaiming MacOS is Linux are neanderthals
ОтветитьIs this the next zachdfilms?
ОтветитьYes both technically BSD UNIX but entirely different kernels. Thank goodness some smart mfs in ‘88 decided to create the portable operating system interface though it’s not too nitpicky anymore like it was back in the day!
Ответитьif we want to be more precise about its BSD/UNIX roots MacOS X was based on the NextSTEP operating system that shipped on Next Workstations.
So saying MacOS is linux is like saying sun microsystems solaris UNIX is linux
Mac OS X came from Next OS which was Steve Jobs project a fork of open source BSD. TCP/IP also came from BSD.
ОтветитьMac is Unix not Linux
Ответить"Linux is not an operating system but more like a base off of what Ubuntu, Puppy and Fedora have built"…......… Please do not say that ever again because it's barely true at all.
ОтветитьMissed oportunity to play vSauce music at the "or are they?"
ОтветитьMac is a fisher toy kids car, Linux is a F22 pilots cockpit.
ОтветитьKDE PLASMA ON MACOS?
Ответитьwow, ive never seen someone so thoroughly not know what their talking about. just about every claim you make in this short is wrong. The MacOS kernel is called Darwin, which is based on FreeBSD. It is not even remotely connected to anything related to Linux. Literally two google searches could've cleared this up for you. I also cannot believe you suggest that because two completely different operating system share some system commands, that a. they are even remotely the same at the source level, and b. even take the same arguments (lots dont across OSX and linux, because yknow, they ARENT THE SAME) This is an exceedingly poorly researched piece of content, if you told me ChatGPT wrote this i wouldnt believe you, because I expect ChatGPT to know the difference between BSD and Linux. I cant even call this AI slop, Ai would do a better job.
ОтветитьMacs are Linux if you put Linux on it
ОтветитьOne is overpriced and overrated, and other is just incredible
Ответитьmacs are crap
Ответить
