I think the growth of social media adds complexity to this argument. For example, R.Kelly's indiscretions came to light when social media was just gaining it's footing in the world compared to Dababy whose indiscretions were at the height of social media. Also, the generational aspect should be studied as well. R.Kelly's fanbase is older (generally) than Dababy's. An argument can be made that this generation is very in tune with who the artist is as a person compared to the generation prior. Overall though, I agree with the discussion that artist development and curating a fanbase is dying out.

We have unrealistic expectations of Artists. Maybe, we should celebrate an artist who contribute into their art in their own way they see fit and not under the pressure of manufacturing art for the sake of fans who demand art for consumption. Humans are not supposed to consume this much content, so, it stands to reason that: artists offer what they give at that moment. Obviously there are artists who constantly make music everyday.

I'm with you in this regard: If an artist claims one thing and then does the other. Then they are open to scrutiny.

I loved. I mean loved Britney Spears. You could tell she was working her butt off. Her dancing skills were amazing and her songs were so danceable. I really don't know who is new within the last 5 years that could ever get on her and others leavel (Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Nicki).

She might not had anxiety as a stripper but she could've gotten from music. Stripping in one building being in the industry to perform a bigger scale you can suffer from anxiety and panic disorder later in life so fans are wrong to call her unprofessional and lazy her anxiety could've gotten worse now

Chris Brown is another great example to this. Also, artists like Adele, Beyonce, Drake, Taylor Swift and the Weeknd have the fan bases where they can literally release anything and their fans will go all out. It took a lot of work to get to that and these new artists aren't ready for any of that

thank you for making this vid. as a practicing artist i’m finding stage presence and the ability to express myself through movement while also singing to be a completely different and new realm that i have to work at. artists really need to be praised for how much practice goes into this shit, because it’s just hours upon hours day in and day out. and your points about speed of fame and relevance!! so true!! slow and steady wins the race in the music industry. artistic and self development is what carries you through no matter if you have a fan base or not. your ability to evolve as an artist is what dictates your ability to stay afloat and stay on the radar.

I think perspective matters. There were a ton of R&B female artists in the 90s that were akin to current artists like Saweetie. They just don’t get the longevity that incredible artists like Beyoncé and Janet slacks on get. Saweetie will be forgotten in 20 years

Tiktok is also responsible for artists not being "popular" anymore. The song becomes popular now, not the artist themselves. And in 5 months the song will lose traction on tiktok and be buried by another soon-to be-gone viral hit song.

This is why too many new artist worry about only the beat and what’s hot or what sound would be for today’s generation, when u have to get your fan base up, get ppl to follow and respect u and then put out some stuff and make sure u listen to your fans and interact with them. This is why ppl like Nicki, Cardi, Beyoncé, Taylor and a few others have strong fan bases cuz at the end of the day who’s the one that’s gonna listen, but, stream, vote and support u… Your fans, so it’s always good to get a strong fan base, this is why when Doja comes at her fans crazy they can’t respect it and shes slowly slipping, Ice Spice don’t have fans and are turning into a one hit wonder, they like that munch song not so much Ice Spice herself, also Latto burning bridges with Nicki made her lose all them awards and Sweetie flopping, just like DaBaby fighting, LGBTQIA+ comment, also his music in general sounds the same with the same flow and similar beat just like 69. Also ppl like Normani. Sza and Summer Walker are under appreciated af and need a better fan base, management and good structured plan in general to keep consistent.
