I work with wine grapes, and hate fake grape flavour, Concord grape (commonly made into grape juice and therefore highly associated with traditional grape flavour) smells and tastes like rotted skunk ass, so I'm with you there

isoamyl acetate(banana flavoring) is found in bananas, but not nearly as much in the ones that we eat nowadays. There was, however, lots of isoamyl acetate in the Gros Michel banana(and thus tasted a lot more akin to banana candies). The Gros michel was the banana back in the day, it was the most popular banana variety in the mid 1800s, when bananas started getting introduced to much of the US.

Unfortunately the Gros Michel banana was attacked by(and nearly wiped off the face of the earth) by the fusarium fungus(starting around the late 1800s, near gone by the 1950s)

(Banana typically spread thru 'cloning' and thus, there really wasnt a chance of any Gros Michel plants being able to evolve a defense against the fungus.)

The banana we eat nowadays in the Cavendish, which is hardier than Gros Michel and more Fusarium resistant, but they also don't taste nearly as banana-y as the Gros Michel.

So when you eat banana flavored things, you aren't eating modern bananas, but rather the bananas of times past, i think its pretty cool and its why banana is one of my favorite flavors, it has a story to it :D

As a fan of tapicoa pudding, it's just vanilla pudding with bits of soft tapioca pearls (basically boba) in it. Souplantation had some awesome tapioca pudding, but they went bankrupt (I think) 🥲

The way you feel about artificial grape and banana is how I feel about artificial watermelon!! Also, artificial banana and grape are both modeled from a rarer banana or grape. They are pretty true to taste, from what I have heard, they are just not the typical fruit that is common now. Sad you don't wanna hang out with me because of my love of grape and banana. Lmao

Fun fact: The artificial banana flavor is actually pretty close to what bananas used to taste like. The most common banana for a while was called a Gros Michel, and they are what the artificial flavor is based on. Unfortunately, the Gros Michel was basically wiped out by a fungus and is now only grown by small-scale local farmers.

Artificial Grape and Banana are literally the best flavors though. I used to have to fight my siblings over those flavors of things. The real worst flavor is Cherry because its medicine flavored.
