A Fascinating Watch With Soviet Era Nixie Tubes

Introduced in 1955, Nixie tubes were first used as numeric displays in digital voltmeters, frequency counters and early calculators before being superseded by LEDs in the 1970s.

Nixie tubes are made of glass. They contain a wire-mesh anode and multiple cathodes, shaped like numerals. Applying power to one cathode surrounds it with a unique orange glow. A nostalgic reminder of the digital past.

The genuine ‘IN-16’ Nixie tubes used in this watch were manufactured in the Soviet Union between 1974 and 1989. Look carefully through the glass case back and you will see the year of manufacture printed on each tube.

A Unique ‘Aged’ Brass or Bronze Colored IP Finish

The Nixie Tube Watch is available with a striking ‘aged’ brass or bronze colored ion-plated finish. Applied to the entire surface of the watch, this treatment ensures that each watch has its own unique retro-futuristic appearance.

Available with a choice of leather or stainless steel strap, the Nixie Tube Watch is USB rechargeable. Connect it to your computer with the USB cable provided to recharge. One full charge takes 1.5 hours and each charge lasts for 1 month.

Even though the Nixie tubes in this watch are more than 30 years old, they are unused and their lifetime is estimated to be 200K hours—equivalent to more than 20 years. How To Read The Time

The time is displayed using the 24-hour clock. The time is read like a digital watch.

Press button A to illuminate the display. The time in hours and minutes is shown in 3 cycles for a total of 5 seconds: hour - minutes - hour - minutes - hour - minutes.

When the time is shown, press button A and the display will show the progression of seconds for 5 seconds.
