once cresting expect 200 speed boost. if you don't anticipate you'll go heel heavy and loose all controll
ОтветитьI get it, but how do you control speed? I find my uphill ski moves a lot when I try to slow down which makes me off balanced and the snow moves my ski and I fall.
ОтветитьI would also mention that a narrow stance as opposed to a wider stance will be more effective. That weight distribution from outside and inside ski is different that when skiing on firm snow. Many inexperienced skiers have difficultly because their skis drift apart and one sinks and the other risers. In powder momentum and staying in the fall line helps. Many novice power skiers over turn and slow down making it difficult to get into the new turn. Many intermediate skiers develop the habit of skidded turns and twisting their feet but this is difficult when you are down into the snow. My last observation is that skiing in powder frequently is a major factor in developing this skill. Having solid technique is very important.
ОтветитьExcellent! I will definately try what you said. Thank you!
ОтветитьThis is the best tip I have heard , thank you !!
ОтветитьThank you! Finally I found a proper how to video. Very much on point, nice examples - all clear.
ОтветитьExcellent
ОтветитьShort, sweet and on point. Most people when starting in powder don't get enough speed to let the skis turn for them. Your "cresting' drill overcomes this fear. Well done.
Ответитьimportant to keep your speed and momentum going, just like on a boat you get up on step, the same with deep snow, always remember ¨speed is your friend¨ and when in doubt go straight.
ОтветитьI've only really skied on ice here on the east coast so thank you for those tips! Can't wait!
ОтветитьI know kung fu.
ОтветитьThis video = "Cresting" THANK YOU GUY, this is excellent! I have a tip of my own: Get your skis out and let them watch the videos with you! It helps, I kid you not. But now my skis talk to me with your accent! (We're going to watch every video, over and over probably!)
ОтветитьHow can anybody have problems in these conditions? This is how I define the afterlife...if there is a god out there.
ОтветитьThe 3 step guide on how to ski powder.
#1. Mortgage the house.
#2. Book a heli trip.
#3. Go!
this vid needs to be preceded by "how to find powder" - whistler is NOT known for powder - it's known for snow - not the same. a top to bottom run here can start with wind packed crud - through some pow then down into slush
powder snow - uncut - lasts shorter and shorter everywhere with each passing year. a pow day opening at 9 am will be skied out by 11 - 12 at the latest. blame high speed lifts and lots of skiers
the answer is that you need to hike
Gnar some pow pow ya jibs
ОтветитьNice, I like the pow pow!
ОтветитьAwesome
ОтветитьAwesome tips, awful music
ОтветитьNice and simple.
ОтветитьTerrific video. This is phenomenal. Short and crisp - to the point. (On a side note -- great track playing in the background. Which one was it?)
ОтветитьWish I had this video when I first started!
ОтветитьFloat.
Float on.
Get up early, be first on the lift.
Find powder!
Guy, you legend. I learned more in this 3 min video about what I'm doing when skiing powder than I have the whole last 15 years.
ОтветитьCan also just get light on your boards in powder. So many more mountains in BC (Kicking Horse, Revelstoke, Whitewater, Red Mountain...) with 10 times the powder days. Been skiing Whistler for over 30 years. Top to bottom it has the most weather changes and visibility is often thick in the winter. They do get some nice spring days.
ОтветитьMust I use allmountain/off-piste skis to ski powder? I find that rather thin and sharp edged piste skis cut too hard when I transition into the next turn, which throws me off balance and I fall. But then it’s probably just me using the wrong techniques

ОтветитьRhythmical?
ОтветитьYou guys think it is a good idea to show a video where you riding in backcountry the whole time and not to mention a single word about safety? You focusing on beginners to tell them how to ride powder and not even one skier in this video does have a backpack – are you kiddin me???!!!
The video is well made but there should be enough time to tell people why it is important to bring beacon, probe and shovel (and to know how to use this stuff). Otherwise you won´t be recognized as serious company…
So helpful now I can ski good powder!!!!!
ОтветитьThis video is the most understandable lesson I have come across to explain the correct technique for powder skiing. Accessible to the greenest of novices with good camera work. Excellent and subscibed
ОтветитьHi is there much of a difference in where you should put your weight? I've seen some people lean back a lot more or should you still lean down the mountain like on piste? Thanks
ОтветитьCan i ski in powder with slalomn skies that are not carvy or broad?
ОтветитьThat’s a waste of good snow😎
ОтветитьWonderful video!
Ответитьsnow snakes opps..Oh legs should be closer..Why..stability. I use easy methods think of a big ball balance on top and bounce up an down. Try it your turns, it will happen much easier; for turning your legs..Counting helps too 1,2,3..turns..
Ответитьwell put together. .great camera angles. . .thx. . .now time to go try it. .
ОтветитьHi Guy, I teach ski for years and I have seen many videos and live explanation but your video had it all! Thumb up buddy, I will share it with my students and friends! Thanks! Catalin - Poiana Brasov - Romania
ОтветитьHi Guy, thank you very much for these amazing and very educative videos. Do you need wider skis to ski powder?
ОтветитьJh
Ответитьthanks soo much now im a pro at power skiing :)
Ответитьcan u powder ski with carving skis??
ОтветитьWhat about counteracting with the upper body to prevent getting rotated into the turn?
ОтветитьI'm using rental skis, currently on a basic version of slalom racing. Ski, is it worth me switching to larger skis? I've managed to do fairly deep powder but it has just chucked it down for 2 days so will the slalom skis be too difficult?
ОтветитьWhat are better runs to begin with? Rabbit Tracks near the Harmony?
ОтветитьThis is great!
Last year, I was at Whistler with some huge powder (60cm 24hr, 80cm 48hr). I can't make any turns in a tree run (>_<). This tutorial should help me a lot.
