As for me, I'm more a listener than a collector, it doesn't matter to me what kind of press it is, what country made the record, the main thing for me is the sound quality and the condition of the record. I collect calm and melodic music, it can be music of different genres, but the main thing is that it shouldn't cut my ears! This year was rich in purchasing records, near 150 records, but I'm just starting my journey in this direction, from December 2023. More precisely, I'm continuing after a 30-year break

Melinda, I have created a whole channel based around mispronunciation. Most viewers tune in just to hear me massacre another name. Nice mix of records, some more common but important. It’s about memories. I did not buy a lot of jazz this year. I am trying to work on my top new albums , been in the works for a month still struggling with it MoFi Simon and Garfunkel would be good, I missed out on that one.

That Cooper album without the panties is no good, you did right. Rhino had a bunch of their box sets for 40% off this month so I got a Velvet Underground that had been too expensive

The year started strong for me, but a lot of competition from the 50+ crowd here left me with nothing. i used to have that TH LP. How was I to know things like that, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and even The Replacements 12 in. I got rid of would be worth tons. The Replacements 12 Do 't Buy or Sell it's Crap is like $100! Melinda- enjoy seeing you in your new audio room. This video was really helpful. You validate my Abraxas LP purchase, by Mobil Fidelity and the Pink Floyd LPs. Have not yet played the numbered Abraxas ( I have numerous year versions), but the 33 1/3 play and and mastering, should make it a high value compared to the 45 version. What speakers did you end up with? Thanks for your updates just prior to the Christmas holidays- Enjoy!

When I was 14 years old, back in 1974, I had an original U.K. 1st pressing of Dark Side Of The Moon. I sold it in 1979 🤦🏻. If only I knew then what I know now… story of my life 😂

I collect only jazz & guitar oriented records. I'd say that only 1% of all records has perfect sound that is better than cd. (((((( I'd say that 99% of all records sound like cds, WHEN THEY SOUND THE SAME, JUST GET THE CDS. )))))) I have about 300 perfect sound records, THAT IS BETTER THAN CDS. About 80% of my records were 1971 & before. A little digital was added to analog in 1972, so after this year ONLY 20% of my records have perfect sound. From 1955 to 1971, that is 17 years that I got 80% of my perfect sound records. From 1972 to 2024. that is 53 years that I got 20% of my perfect sound records. Before 1971, for 17 years, I found an average of 17 perfect sound records per year. After 1972, for 53 years, I found an average of 1 perfect sound record a year. ((((((( My advice to NEW record collectors is this, if you are looking for great sounding records, is that you are 17 TIMES BETTER OFF looking for perfect sounding records in 1971 & before.)))))) By the way, 1/3 of my best sounding records were recording in just one year, that year is 1971. Most of the major bands tried to make their best albums in 1971. After 1971 most of the great guitarists were slowing down, & the best recording engineers got together & decided to quit.

That is a great section of classics ..The latter 50s to late 60s record company vinyl was much better than the 70s especially after the 1974 oil crisis issues that made oil rise high and record companies had to use a cheaper formula that had more surface noise but still had good sound quality mostly but the quieter areas was at a compromise ..Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab did not go cheap and that is why their old releases sound great overall.. If you like a lot of saxophone jazz chek out John Klemmer when you get the chance ..I just happened to discover the album -Barefoot Ballet - on vinyl at a thrift antique mall and I am hooked ..

Disappointingly~I Can't Seem To Find The CD Version Of VAN HALEN Collection Volume I BoxSet~With The First 6 LPs[With David Lee Roth]...As If It Don't Exist Anymore...Only The Vinyl Version Is Only Available~And VAN HALEN Collection II...

For me, my two favourite acquisition were 10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged - been waiting for that for a very long time - and I found a sealed copy of the 45rpm Analogue Productions pressing of Nils Lofgren Acoustic Live. It sounds amazing. Got a bunch of other really good stuff as well and upgraded my system substantially. Very good year!

Hello, Melina! Rigth here in Argentina was a great year for vinyl. There was remastered and repressings of vinyl that not was in stores for nearly 30 or 40 years. And was an amazing find of lost álbums that was lost form the eye, and they find the Master tapes! And i have to say, this was MY year of buy LP in my life. I lost count how many i got between CD and LP. Nearly 50 or 60 for shure. But was a great year for Argentina. And many artist from my country have a new récord release, like Charly Garcia in an amazing release Number edition. Have a Merry Chrismas, Melinda. Based on your top 20, I gave the Dennis Wilson record a listen knowing nothing about it. It’s fantastic and now on my want list. Thank you. In return I will recommend the latest Mark Knopfler record which was released in 2024. It’s titled One Deep River. A must have and a beautiful sounding record.

I need to clarify my last post that was too brief to understand correctly, I didnt say cds are better than records. Some cd owners say cds sound better than records, but I prove to them that they dont know what they are talkiong about & they get fighting mad that they find out they are wrong, many cd owners need a psychiatrist. I have 400 records that sound better than cds, but I can only tolerate listening to half of them on cds It is good that many people only listen to records. But much of the records sound like cds. Thats why choosy record owners tell you what they like, or dont like, thats what your forum is about, each of us has differenty likes than each other, & that is great. You dont like the U2 Joshua Tree record. But I like U2 Joshua Tree, & I dont like the record either, but the cd only sounds slightly better, but I can understand a turntable owner not buying a cd player to only listen to only one cd called U2. But most record owners only like small percentage of the records out there. I have some not great sounding albums I like. I like the Little River Band, but I dont like listening to their records, or cds. That is just my opinion. I dont like country music, but if its one of the best sounding albums, I want it. Most orchestra music sounds terrible, it is very rare to find a listenable orchestra record or cd, but there is a few good ones out there that sound fantastic. The technology of remastering records is improving, cds are not improving.

Sorry to hear your vinyl hunting and gathering was not as stellar as you would have liked. Mine was the opposite, I seemed to find more than I thought I would and found many new unknowns that were awesome. I didn't come across any really hard to find grails but found some OG pressings that had famous masters and labels etc. Filled lots of holes and spent tooooo much $$$$ ......yikes 😮

The fact that all of your choices are re-issues or older albums says something about the state of music today. It’s very depressing when you think about it.

As a Christmas 'gift' to us...purchased the Impex pressing of Kenny Dorham's Matador...(along with a copy of Steve Hackett's latest Circus and the Nightwhale...no special pressing...other than g a gatefold liner notes credits galore 8 page album.size booklet(illustrations lyrics et al) and yes 180 gram blacl vinyl pressing! 😂
THE Dorham release was fabulous ( many aspects) played it with some other KD spins we have in our music library...Afro Cuban and Toccata..in particular...yes Matador is a step up or so compared to the other 2 we played! CONCLUSION...dont know of any other Dorham releases on Impex..having Axpona style gear 300 k Speakers and TT at 7K plus...to us/me ... the Matador has a 'better' sound over SH's release...but one doesnt get the premium treatment as mentioned above which Dorham release doesnt...we WILL take the 'tradeoff' with our "subpar'' 😂 Technics tt's Kenwood Onkyo/Vector Research Receivers JBL/Boston Acoustic speakers...
YES our hearing wont be like say 20 years or even 10 years beyond!

As compared to Blakely fans...we are huge fans) that does tell the story of what does/doesnt...quite sure the label has taken such into consideration what gets the go ahead...artist wise...fistful vs TONS (LISTENERS)🎉

Lots of vinyl re-issues these days are being sourced from digital files, which really defeats the purpose of purchasing the vinyl, in my opinion. So unless your purchasing vintage albums that were pressed back in the pre-cd days, you are most likely getting digital sound, rather than true analog. Most casual consumers don't get this, and the record industry prefers it that way. An educated consumer is not their best customer in this case. Many record buyers just assume that if it's a record, then it must be analog, right? However, an original analog recording is still going to sound better, even after being digitized than an all digital production ( ADD as compared to DDD.) Once again, that's just my opinion

I didn't have as many scores as you but I did pick up Stevie Nicks 'Stand Back' compilation and FINALLY found my last pair of white panties for Alice Cooper's 'Schools Out' which matches my pink, yellow and blue collectible ones. I've already preordered Michael Jackson's 'Off the Wall' by Mobile Fidelity which will be released in a few weeks. What a great pop album by Michael and Quincy Jones. RIP!
