Actually Angron beat Leman Russ and would have killed him if not for Russ Sons ambushing him and getting trapped into their killzone via gunpoint. At best it would have been a double suicidal kill.

I'm not a chaos boy, but you did a disservice to Angron and Perturabo. Their motivations are a lot more complex than what you spoke of. For instance, Angron recognizes the Emperor as a tyrant, similarly to Jaghati, which contributed to his indifference to the Great Crusade. That and you know, letting the only people he formed a bond with since childhood die, despite having his custodes guard and the war hounds legion at the ready against a relatively underdeveloped human population.

Perturabo couldn't exactly go, 'Hey daddy, I don't like this job you've gene bred me for, can I get some more of what Dorn is doing instead of these insanely hard campaigns? The IV legion would have been blammed like the forgotten legions.
