Some bands now these days don't even play their music on stage. They either have other musicians playing at offstage or they have a track to supplement. Motley Crue anyone?

There's a difference between teleprompter with lyrics and background lyrics being played.

It’s harder when you’re in a cover band, singing a bunch of songs you didn’t write and you have to remember all the words to a catalog.

I've been singing live since the 80s and sometimes you just get a mental blank and your brain just won't give you the lyric. You've memorised 65 songs but you're standing there completely unable to think of the first line in Johnny B Goode until you open your mouth! Also the band is often triggered by what you sing. Sing the wrong last line/word to a verse and they'll go into the leadbreak, breakdown or ending and there's no choice but to go along with it, skip a bit and end the song prematurely. If I'm unsure of a song I'll have a cheat sheet with the first and last word of each part just in case.

It's very understandable, especially when you have so very many hit songs ❤

Plus, it's so easy to forget if you're singing the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd verse. On many songs, verses are interchangeable.

The eye contact is real. I was right at the front of the stage during the pump tour and I swear Steven leaned over the rail and looked right at me. Ha. Memories. I was such an Aerosmith fanatic back then.
