To this day I cannot believe that in high school I bought a 70 ( BLUE WITH WHITE STRIPES ) with a 350 and cross ram duel quads for a $1,000. Then turn around a sold it for the same amount and today I still cannot explain why I did.

'In the day', I owned several Ram Air III and IV's, a number of SD455's, a couple of 426 Hemi's, and one L88 Corvette...and what is really heart-breaking is that for the price of a car loan, you can go out and buy an 800-hp monster (Dart Demon, Challenger-Scat Pack, etc.) with NO IDEA how to treat them or drive them properly. Sure deflates the value of 'collector' cars, when you can simply find a totalled Demon or Challenger Scat Pack car, and swap the power train over to the 'old body'....cheaper than you can buy the old 'collector car' (that will get outran by the first kid with a Chevy Camaro SS LS/LT1....)

So he said it was a 454 with 450 hp immediately followed by it being a 512. Does that mean it's a 454 bored out to 512 cubic inch?
Or is the 512 just the name of the engine used for the 427 and 454?

Funny how this car can't compete with a 2008 base model Corvette with 436 hp 376CID at 3175 lb Convertible. The Chevelle is just too heavy. With long tube header and 3 inch pipe and race cats. 11.8 @ 121.32 MPH.

Wrong intake manifold. The LS 6 came with a low rise aluminum intake as it was slated to go into the Corvette but that did not happen. I know this as I owned one that I purchased in 1972 and have the build sheet from this car today. Mine was also red with a red interior and was built at the Lakewood, Atlanta plant and shipped to a dealer in Jacksonville, Fla. where I lived at the time. I paid $2400 for it.

I worked for a guy in the mid 80’s who had 2 ls6 chevelles, a hard top and convertible, and 2 396 chevelles, again a hard top and convertible. All 1970, all red and black, both ls6 were 4 speed, both 396 were auto (so his wife could drive them). I lost touch with him and often wonder if he still has them.

You did it wrong. When you test drive an LS6 454 there is supposed to be tires screeching, the engine revving, gear banging, sideways sliding, and power shifting.
Otherwise one might assume the car is defective. You might as well have your mother drive. Please try again.

u do understand that GM make 2 different 454 one is the ho 454 450 hp at 485 torque and the LS 6 454 small block both came out in 1970 only the ls was aluminum block 6 bolt main at 485 hp with 525 torque they built 212 with the ls 6 and only 6 with the ls 7 427 . if u don't believe me then read up on the mark 4 series it tells about them changing the angle of the pistons that means a new block. then u have to ask would GM call 2 different engines the same thing i think not this is y a ls 6 454 no matter what year it is it will be a 454 small block . i use to drag race a ls 6 454 in 1975 and it was a small block but back then u could only get it as a crate engine same with all the ls engines and they were not cheap at all very very expensive to buy one all most as much as a 3 bedroom house. u could order it as a iron block or aluminum block. just like a lsx is a 454 with a 427 crank both are small blocks. if u had a real 1970 ss LS 6 454 it would say cowl induction LS on the hood but if u look on the net un can fine a lot of them with the bbc in it because they built over 5000 cars with the bbc 454 in it so what would make that the holly grail car but if they only built 212 that would make it the holly grail car and the 6 with the LS 427 it is sitting in a virement control shop same with the ls 6 454 cars they are suppose to be under 150 ls 6 cars left in the world but still have all 6 of the 427 left most have under 300 miles on them never been restored still look new in the shop. i have a 67 ss rs 427 yenko camaro and they built 256 of them but yet they claim the 70 ss ls 6 was more rare then my car. u can not go by the code because it was the same car GM. racing division took the bbc 454 out of the to put in the 454 small block they only changed the hood emblems and engine it still had the crate engine code but both in 1970 were crate engines. then in 71 u could get the bbc 454 with 450 hp in cars but not the ls engine like camaro , nova, chevelle , vett

The LS6 big blocks makes a great boat anchor, except it is too heavy! What a gas guzzling low power, low revving pile of waste. Most overrated GM engine ever. 1967 was the last year they made a fast and lighter intermediate Chevelle. The LS6 would make a great truck engine.
