The end: I think the Swanky apartment belonged to a boyfriend. The super fancy look of all his stuff next to the colorful/quirky/average look of the player's stuff, pluse the award going under the bed seems to signify it wasn't a good match. Not sure if it was marriage/divorce, or just a breakup, but it definitely seems like the player character broke up with their man and had to move back to their childhood home.
