my only quarrel with the movie is that Kubrick changed ferol from being a criminal to a big guy who had autism, books choice was much better cause it showed soldiers were also not the best people either

Some "anti-war" movies still show heroes in battle doing heroic things, and that can still make battle look exciting and thrilling. This film does NOT do that.

I don't think paths of glory is an anti war film. It's anti corruption and anti the bad parts of humanity, but it's not anti war. Kirk Douglas's character never shows any major qualms with the war itself, in fact he is very patriotic and willing to fight for his country's victory. He only has problems with the leadership losing all it's humanity in the context of war, but it could be in any context.
