In this video, I take a look at the genetic origins of the Indo-Europeans based on two recent studies that are currently in the pre-print phase. According to the study, the Indo-European or Aryans originated in the Volga Region of Russia and Southern Ukraine. These Aryans then migrated across European, Central Asia, West Asia, and East Asia. These migrations were undertaken by the Afanasievo and Corded Ware descendants of the Yamnaya people, who are better known as the Proto-Indo-Europeans or Aryans. Thus, these new findings are in stark contrast to the findings of the 2022 study on the genetic history of the southern arc, which concluded that the Aryans originated in the South Caucasus. Another issue discussed in the study is the nature of the Aryan migration to Anatolia. In this regard, two competing theories have emerged. The most likely of these is a Balkan migration into Anatolia, as opposed to a Caucasian one. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that whereas previously no evidence for Aryan ancestry was found in Anatolia, the recent study presents evidence of around 10% of this ancestry in the Bronze Age Anatolia. Thus, the latest findings prove a European origins for the Indo-Europeans.
