Why Everyone is Abandoning GoPro

I just picked up a hero 10 for 200$ loving it so far.

My go pro 9 has never shut off due to over heating, but I do have to pull the battery every once and awhile because it wont turn on. Had a go pro 7 silver, that camera always overheated and shut down. the 7 black never shut down due to overheating. Overall Go Pro's do have a lot of bugs that need to be worked out.

the main problem for me (GP8) is their Quik App. the worst app in history. you can't trasfer your file via WiFi to your Android phone you can't find the files in the App on your phone and it's designed ONLY for the their ridiculous "cloud" subscription- not for the users. I hate it so much - and my next action cam will be DJI or any descent alternative. I want access and control my data.

Too severe. There are troubles (apart from the ones already mentioned, there are also hot pixels in sensor, dead pixels in the displays), but it's not a piece of unreliable crap. They are still good. However, I bought a Sony RX0 II instead. It does not have gimbal like stabilisation and does not record 4K 60 10 bit. But, it's more durable and reliable.

I am a modest, fairly new to the field, content creator. Had a GP7 for hobby use early on, but didn’t use it much. Then got serious when the GP9 came out. Very rarely had overheating problems, but they did get hot on occasion. Used them extensively, but they never failed me. Got a GP11 recently for the 4K/120fps. Love it. Use the new white batteries as well.
What I have found is that GoPro should probably stop doggedly adhering to the every year release business model. It seems that every other release (7, 9, 11) have real worthy upgrades. It’s the in-betweens (8,10, 12) that are actually lackluster in their improvements. If they took several years to produce the next one, the product would be significantly better, the buzz would be more profound and the company would be more respected overall. But that’s just my $ .02.

Go pro 3 was the best one the rest is flat out garbage an the crazy price for that no thanks the 360 one or dji7 is awsome

I am still using a GoPro Hero7 and it is still great. Of course it freezes sometimes but you need to keep in mind that it's several years old. I know a lot of people that love GoPro and they haven't have any problems. I think that the people that have these problems are just really unlucky. There is a reason why so many uses GoPro. So don't focus on the small stuff that's happeningto like 1% of the users.

GoPro 11 mini is a disposable Go Pro. You have to damage it to get to the fn battery!!!!

I have a go pro fusion and it has been abandoned by the company, i can not stitch my footage anywhere, go pro’s answer is just to buy a new go pro.

Just bought a 9 and I love it already!!! Sounds to me whoever is abandoning it is just bored.

my hero 8 is stuck on video recording, touch screen doesnt work so i canr change it, i didnt use it for bout 4 month so maybe that has something to do with it. and i overheated ALOT with that thing when i did use it, dont recommend lmaoo

My 8 is the largest pos ever built. Constant freezing. Constant file corruption. Constant issues. I have to pull the battery at least once per use to reset everything. Horrific experience.

Just bought a GP 10 and NOT happy. It's first charge, the battery gets so hot you can fry an egg, not what I expected 😢

Then why is everyone talking about it? Who makes a video about GoPro to announce they no longer will make videos with GoPro🤫If GoPro is so bad why is every other wanna be action tech company copying them? 🤦🏻‍♂️

I am returning my new 10 after 1 week because the issues it already has. going back to using phone

two 11 minis and neither woudl recharge after initial setup and few hours use on the first and the 2nd id didnt even use i just set it up and went to full charge and nada

Got a GP 10 and has been a PITA since day 1, A yr later and trying to give it another go and remember why this will end up on ebay or something. It's such a pita that I just think forget it and dont want to deal with trying to get video, what a shame. I have a hero 2, which isn't the best quality but was easy to figure out. More is definitely less for me

Ce que je hais avec la gopro c'est l'impossibilité d'utiliser la fonction gps sur pc, seul l'application gopro version android ou apple le permet alors que le prix de la caméra et l'abonnement est conséquent... Il vienne d'annoncer une nouvelle application windows, mais seulement pour les abonnés, on nous prend vraiment pour des vaches à lait. Au final mon smartphone fait de meilleur vidéo, si j'aurai su que c'était une bonne bouse cette caméra, j'aurais simplement acheté un deuxième smartphone pour permettre l'appel au secours en cas de soucis si le premier venait à décéder lors d'un choc pendant l'enregistrement d'une session sportive...

Yup, the two GoPros I had would overheated and stop recording CONSTANTLY, had terrible battery life and sucked in low light. Never again.

I don’t mind my 9 or 11 but the thing that annoys me is not supporting usb mics without another adapter. Makes the camera so much more bulky than it needs to be

I shoot music videos for regional bands.. I have a NIKON D820, NIKON D750, 2 DJI Drones and a GoPro8 and a GoPro9..
I use the GoPro's a lot, because they are easy to get into tights spots and they are super easy to carry.. the G8 is my go to when using a GoPro.. It doesn't glitch out on me like the 9 does.. Although the 8 will have sound drop outs.. Like every 15 secs there will be a 1/2sec sound drop-out and when shooting a video, if you have a need to use Audio from the shoot.. I have to shoot with the D820 and use a Zoom H6 recorder so I catch all the ambient sounds we may be looking for along with the music.... I mean the drones don't do sound, so that is all used for angles and aerial views in the mix..
All that said.. With how glitchy the GP9 is, I am done with GoPro's.. I have used a DJI Action 3 on loan, and it was really tight.. I had none of the issues I have with the GoPro's ..
PPL have been telling me GoPro has it all fixed in the 12.. but it seems like that is the same spew that comes out before every GoPro versions release.. I no longer trust GoPro at all..
Just from my POV..

gopro 11 is a heap of cak!! no other way to put it - I don't know how many irreplaceable clips I've lost because of it - as for DURABLE - it is junk - the two buttons didn't even last a year in a not to rugged setting.

My Hero 5 black camera was making video kinda unfocused not sharp as I used to get ear;ier 4 months. I tried to reach out to many experts but couldn't got any solution. I stop trusting this brand.

i have a hero 9 and had nothing but issues from it, I ended up using it as a webcam for meetings and even then it will get hot and cut off in the middle of a meeting, if it even works at all.

Going from a hero 2 to a hero 10 black was as disappointing as it was exciting. The quality of the video doesn't really make up for the overheating issues. Luckily I was able to jerry-rig some active cooling so I could record an air show non-stop without having to worry about my GoPro breaking.

Iphone 14 pro is better than gopro.

Go Pro 11 black sucks..Got a dji action 3 instead..My Go pro 5 hero black still runing with out issues though

Took my brand new GoPro Hero 9 on a family trip to Bali where we spent most days at the pool and swimming at the beach. 20 minutes into the first pool day water seeped into the unit and I couldn't see what I was shooting.
An ACTION camera that's not truly waterproof? Come on guys get your quality control in order.

My GoPro 7 and 10 Black are awesome I use my 7 a lot when SCUBA diving...

Good information. The one thing that no one ever seems to focus on is its inability to handle low-light conditions. Even when there is ambient light, the image just sucks.

Love the go pro. Had the 4 Silver, now on 9 black, never failed from diving with whale sharks and turtles, climbing mountains or filming in water parks. GoPro is a term the world used worldwide when they see someone with a little box on a stick.

I mean I am shocked how many people do complain about it but only few knows what is the problem. It is not definitely the camera, it is the user who doesn't know what to do with the micro SD card...and they just get some SD card insert the card in the camera and they thin...that's it. No that is no it, you have to update the card with a file that will make the camera work forever.

its a Marketing Team vs Technical Team internal conflict. Marketing always pushing to release new iteration to increase sales despite Tech team trying to clear the backlog of issues/bugs. As always, marketing wins, thus bugs are still there

I've owned 5 go pros over the last 10 years. The product has hardly developed and the competition principally DJi have overtaken them in terms of quality and reliability of the product.

Have the GoPro 6 just upgraded to DJI Osmos Action 4. So far so its Great! I went thru a lot of reviews. Action 2 the little sqaure one sucks. At least from the reviews. And with both cubes on it. It not really any smaller than a Osmos Action 4. So really pointless. 360 is cool but not great in Low Light. Which I need.
