As passionate gardener, Sunday Times best-selling author and YouTube star Huw Richards explains, if you're trimming grass around the base of your fruit trees you have to be really careful not to trim too close, to avoid damaging the bark.
The best thing to do, is leave a patch of grass around the base, and then go back in to cut back with hedge clippers. You can then leave these grass cuttings on the ground; to break down.
An extra top tip that Huw recommends is laying down some cardboard and layering mulch or compost on top, around the base of the tree, leaving around an inch of space to allow the tree to breathe and prevent diseases.
Enjoy a bountiful harvest this Summer!
