This is great education, however, the “with normal brains” portion of your organ donation comment is not great at all. Are people who are alive but suffer from a type of brain dysfunction not deserving of organ donation? How about “functioning brains” instead?

We think of the spine as power cables that simply attach to the brain, though it's honestly much more than that. The spine has 69 million neurons, the honey bee on the other hand has 960,000 neurons.
Therefore the idea that the spine can think, albeit to a much lesser capacity than the brain isn't incorrect and people with a severed spine report that theor body beneath the area that the spine is severed will occasionally behave with a mind of its own.
A woman paralysed from the chest down was admitted to hospital for an extremely high heart rate and high blood pressure, on examination she had no problems with her heart but had a (supposedly extremely painful, though unable to be felt by the patient) tumor in her bladder. Seems that the spine started doing what it could to warn the patient of the pain.

I think I've heard of the legs of paraplegics attempt to walk on their own at times. From knowing a paraplegic years ago he said his legs would kick and move around on their own accord.

I would assume that the lazarus effect if what's left of the nervous system trying to put the body into a defensive posture, with the hands and arms covering vital organs.

Not a very robust reflex but you demonstrated the spinal origin or the phenomenon well. I've only ever seen it one other time in an old video of a woman hanging herself, her posthumous movements were very pronounced compared to this poor kid.

Poor kid; idk what he did to get in that situation; regardless, this is extremely sad to witness. The fact they allowed this for educational purposes makes me grateful to turn this horrible situation into somewhat a positive.
