SPIDER-MAN 4's NEW Director: What This Means for Sony, the MCU, and Shang-Chi 2

If they do Kingpin, it was heavily hinted at the end of echo that he is gonna become Mayor of new york. Then he is probably gonna convince the city its biggest problem is all the vigilantes. That would be interesting to see Peter fight kingpin (and scorpion or tombstone as the brawler), but struggles because his home town is hating his every move. Has to win back their love, even though he is all alone and has noone who knows him anymore

Hopefully this still lends itself to a Shang Chi sequel happening. Notwithstanding I love this. Hopefully he brings Mr Negative into Spiderman 4. Let them cook on this.

How about Hailey Welsh (Hawk Tuah) acting debut as one of Spidey's female "venomous" villains such as Scorpia?

I see no reason Shang-Chi 2 should be delayed if Destin Daniel Cretton is signed to Spider-man 2. Hire a new director. John Woo, Ang Lee, Deborah Chow, Chad Stahelski, Gina Prince Bythewood etc. Or promote the 2nd unit director from the first film. Marvel has options.

What if Spider-Man 4 is just the Bombastic Bagman' since we get the Fantastic 4 by then anyway. OR we get a Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends movie and bring in Firestorm and Iceman sharing an Apartment in NYC. lol

... spidey,daredevil, black cat , kingpin side Villain scorpion with them trying to get a hold of this weapon kingpin wants just find out at the end of the movie this unknown weapon is the symbiote while miles is the is Peter gut in the chair until he gets his powers in Spider-Man 7 🤷🏾‍♂️

Bring in Black Cat/Felcia Hardy. Have Peter struggling with having feelings for someone new and in a different kind of relationship. And tie it in to a Kingpin story

I love Erik but his attitude on the MCU just shoe horning Miles into this movie is weird. Miles is too important to just toss him in to this movie. Spiderman & Daredevil vs Kingpin is enough and at the end of the movie, you meet Miles... then the next movie you do the duo / mentor angle... and then the 3rd is the passing of the torch. Having 3-4 major storylines in one movie is just awful.

How about Austin Butler as Harry Osborn that Peter meets in college and develops a friendship with then meets Norman Osborn who is played by Michael Fassbender. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I'll be in the movie for you guys I already have my own cinematic character anyway

It means a safe choice for Spider-Man like Watts. Another studio guy like coogler. They follow orders and thats all. It will be another bland but entertaining adventure. It won't take risks. And that's ok.

Hear me out: Spider-man 4 should be a grounded film with Spider-man in the middle of a mob war(Silvermane, hammerhead, tombstone, kingpin etc) but the crossover team up character here is THE PUNISHER where at first he feels they have a lot in common and eventually he sees he can’t fully become like him and needs his Peter side to thrive. Full on action movie that maybe even takes place in one night. I have more mapped out Marvel hmu

I'm hoping that from now until Doomsday, we're just getting end credits of different characters/heroes going to locations to seal up incursion points (similar to what is currently happening in the X-Force (2024)comics.) That'll allow random hero team up that wouldn't make sense for a story but you can still fill in your marvel Easter egg quota.

What if he finds the symbiote at the end of the second act and wears it in the third act fight and he doesn’t show side effects yet… He starts to show them in Secret Wars (aggressive/angry).

I think James Earl Jones played the King of the African country that Eddie Murphy represented in "Coming to America" I remember him from that movie, I think that was the first time I ever saw James Earl Jones acting,.

Roderick Kingsley was the real Hobgoblin in the comics, not Ned Leeds.

A few things :

1/ Shang Chi 2 the Wreckage of Time was actually an official title earlier in the planning (like, a couple of years ago), potentially linking the 10 rings to Kang, which would make sense since they stop the flow of time to the wearer (Wen Wu didn't age for the millenia he wore them), and planned to be the movie that would lead directly to Kang Dynasty. A theory would be that the beacon they were sending would have been sent to the quantum realm where Kang was prisonner (or wherever actual final boss Kang was), to show him they were now activated and awaiting his return. Of course, this didn't come to fruition because A/ the Kang in Quantumania was probably not the actual big boss Kang of phase 456, and B/ Jonathan Majors's issues and being dropped.

2/ So since Shang Chi was supposed to be the main character of both Shang Chi 2 and at least one of the main leads in Kang Dynasty, now that the Kang plans have been scraped, it stands to reason why the entire Shang Chi IP has been significantly delayed, back to the drawing board. Having Destin making Spiderman 4 (which, I'm super happy for him, as I remember in some of his interviews during hte press tour of Shang Chi, when asked which other superhero movie he'd love to try out to direct, he answered without hesitation Spiderman. So I'm actually really glad for him that his plan on the comet actually came true) would be a good segway to have that cool training montage where where Shang Chi trains Spiderman in martial arts after Spiderman lost his spider sense. That would kinda normalize having Shang Chi appearing in other major characters movies or series, and I would love to see him fighting besides Wong, Hulk, and Captain Samerica. Oh, and geek out with Ms Marvel and Kate Bishop.
Which, in the absence of a Shang Chi 2, would be the next best thing.

Can we not introduce Miles in live action just yet?

Listening to the Breakroom after the live broadcast. I had quite a musical hit glad hearing one singing re: Wicked and then souls of cities/boroughs being a plot focus. Immediately thought of a Newsies crossover. Darn you break room - now I will need to watch Newsies again!

Villain Ned as hobgoblin from another universe would be cool ,and teen miles morales , and street heroes lead by spiderman & daredevil vs street villain lead by kingpin

I'd like Ned becoming a villain if it's because he does remember helping Spiderman but Spiderman keeps giving him the cold shoulder and doesn't take it too well

Spider-Man is great, Tom Holland is great, but those are 50/50 Sony films, which make them 50/50 MCU films, so to say the whole of the MCU is seen as most important through a half owned by Sony trilogy is not something I'd have thought.

Iron Man was clearly their standard for the MCU backbone franchise
Captain America would also be a great contender because it'll be at 4 films in the franchise soon, and has spanned several years, and a lot of heavy world-building elements within each one.

Spider-Man never really carried weight of the larger MCU narratives being pushed into those films.

After having listened to more of the video. Another hot take I have.


The MCU Spider-Man had always been set up to be a hand off to a Miles Morales Spider-Man.

We know that Miles uncle already exists in the MCU 616, we know that in a deleted scene Gambino is on the phone with Miles, and at one point tells Peter he "has a nephew". I think what is happening is they've introduced this version of Spider-Man with the end goal of killing him off to set up a MCU/Disney Miles Spider-Man and allow Sony to take Peter back, and either continue on more solo stuff not connected to the MCU for a while, or to potentially recast. (I do think Sony is eying to recast Tom after Spider-Man 4, the writing was on the wall with the clear hints at the Madam Webb film.

PS:

They have cast Coleman Domingo for Norman Osborn in the animated series. IF they wanted to, they could use Coleman Domingo as the version of Norman in the MCU 616 and I think that alone would be a huge clutch for people to want to see that movie. JMO
