Alex father seems happy to see his son go to prison. How cruel. There's subliminal messages that state he was never loved by them as they dont even care to pay attention to his doings. After he comes back, he sees his parents have taken in a lodger to replace him. The only love he ever had was from his mother, who can't help but have love for her son even after his wrongdoings.
