I am wondering if the results are being limited by your CPU, rerun the test using a faster CPU like 3900 with 1 GPU and then 2 GPU also since this video is so old I am wondering if the newer adobe software is any better with using 2 GPUs

Thing is... Did your mobo have 2x x16 pcie slots? Most boards will swap to dual 8x

I use 2x 8 core Xeon E5-v4 on C612 mobo & single Quadro M4000 8g. I wanna use an AMD R9-390X 8g so would matching that for 2x help much if primarily renduring, encoding in Adobe audio, video and photoshop 3D. Or should I match the Quadro as it's down in cost to match dual 980's. What's a good used price performance upgrade to this in 2021 w/ GPU cost the way it is or if waiting form $$ to come bk down.? Is it more a balance of vram vs core count? Is dual 6g better then single 8g? on the CPU side, does Adobe like dual physical CPU's multi core vs single core of similar count. like is 2x 8c on C612 w/ ECC any better then single 10c on my X99 10c of near match of 3,4GHz?

In which game could you actually ever double your performance with SLI or Crossfire?! It always was more of a +60% scaling at best.

Hey Max, I was looking to upgrade my GPU especially for Noise Reduction in Resolve. I don't care about rendering time... I just want Resolve to stop saying ''GPU Memory is full''.
I have an old 980 Ti, and i'm editing BMPCC 6K BRAW files. The only way that i'm able to play/render video with NR is to set the timeline to 1080p. I can get a second 980 Ti (same exact model) for very cheap at the moment. My question is : Is dual GPU would only help when rendering, or also for playback? Thanks for your help man!

Adobe did lots of improvements to Premiere Pro recently in term of using the GPU for the rendering. Are your conclusions still valid 3 years later?

i agree, i never use new features. i've completed whole music videos with 'fast color corrector' and 'neat video reduce noise' so an optimized version that just always works would be great

Adobe is years behind in utilizing modern hardware like the Ryzen CPUs. Dual Graphics is too far behind and they need to get their act to optimize AMD/Ryzen first before I even consider them as an option

I have the free version of Divinci Resolve 15 and i have a 1080ti and 960 as a dedicated physx card, I see that my 1080ti and 960 are being used for rendering a video. 10% and 43% usage, whilte clocks and vram are also at 4.3gbs/14** and 1.5gbs/11**
Gonna do the same render again but take the 960 out and see if there's any difference in render times with just the 1080ti by itself installed.

I remember reading somewhere that it is pretty much only the CPU that does the work when exporting/rendering a file, which would explain your results. I could be wrong though.

if you have the right box you can substantially decrease temp by using eider 2 large fans facing each other or 3 fans in-between cpu cooler on top of gpu coolers, the 2 fan design will keep your build overly silent because of the low rpm and you might ed up hearing your card but the advantage of that is that the hot air will escape upward. Can you fit 2 with 2 in one box?

I mean if your gonna shove power in to your machine you might as well get everything out of it.

From someone who owns Resolve Studio, and from someone who runs two graphics cards, I can tell you that Resolve DOES in fact, scale to a second, third, and even fourth card --- usually around 75% to second card, 50% to third card, and 25% to fourth card.

You will not notice this improvement at all in a lot of low-end workflows like editing and playback of 1080p clips... You'll really start to see it when adding OFX plugins, color nodes, etc. to 4K and higher footage. This can all be verified by Puget Systems own testing - just search for 'dual GPU Resolve Puget Systems' on Google.

With that said, Adobe does not make any good use of high end hardware, period. Adobe is using old and outdated code for their programs - and their marketing department has demanded that 'new features' be added to keep people paying $50 a month instead of actually spending time going back and reworking the code to make it more efficient on high-end hardware.

There should be a reason why FirePro and Quattro exists.

Your video is its best argument to dump Adobe and go with DaVinci. I have read several reports Resolve runs much better on an AMD\Radeon platform.

For faster renders pit the video file on a ssd then render it to a ram drive on the computer that ram disk is faster then a hardrive and gives you way faster performance more risky because you reboot it deletes the drive but it makes the biggest differnece as write speed on hardrives are slow

So in other words, there's no point, which is disappointing. Its also the same case in gaming, it seems there is a big shift away from dual GPU/SLI in all areas of tech. Hardly any games support dual/SLI and in a lot of cases, even when they do, you're still going to find one GPU doing most of the work, and the second not doing much at all. It seems dual GPU/SLI is becoming pointless on all fronts.

It's my understanding that there is a text file you can add to the program files on Adobe Premiere, which prompts the use of both video cards.
