FUN FACTS YOU'LL BE GLAD I LOOKED INTO TO FIND OUT:

Sir Nicholas Winton attended an event at the BBC in 1988, which he believed was a routine audience gathering. Little did he know that the event was a surprise tribute to him. During the event, a woman began reading out the names of individuals he had saved through the Kindertransport during World War II. Winton was unaware that the gathering was in his honour, and the emotional revelation of the impact of his actions took him by surprise. This touching moment showcased the profound impact of his humanitarian efforts and the lives he had touched.

Sir Nicholas Winton was made aware of the event through the efforts of his wife, Grete Winton. She had discovered documents in their attic that detailed the names and photos of the children her husband had saved during the Kindertransport. Grete decided to contact the BBC, which then organized the surprise event to honor Nicholas Winton's extraordinary contributions. Winton, initially unaware of the true nature of the gathering, attended thinking it was a routine audience event. The emotional revelation of the impact of his actions unfolded as the names of the individuals he had saved were read out loud, making it a powerful and unforgettable moment for him.

I remember watching this unfold on That's Life when I was a teen. He was such an unassuming humble man and yet his actions were Knightly. That's what Knights do, they protect. And our late Queen Elizabeth 2 duly knighted him. There's probably not a single person ever who has received a Knighthood and been more deserving than Nicholas Winton. He kept those scrapbooks in his loft, never made a big deal of it and just got on with his life. When Esther asked the audience if anyone in the audience had been helped by him and most of the audience stands up, it really sinks in exactly what he did. 669 children. Many got married and had children themselves, many of those children have had children too, and I'm sure some of those original children's grandchildren have had children too. His actions have actually contributed to the future lives of tens of thousands of people. Now I am not what you would call a religious person, I guess it has never found me, but I do believe that maybe there is something out there. Something bigger than all of us. Maybe it is a god. If there is a god, I think he looked down at Sir Nicholas, worked out the average lifespan of a man - assuming 85 years old, and then thought " Nope " you Sir are gonna get a bit longer on earth. 106 years old. That man deserved every second of his life because he made every moment count. RIP. xxx

Like sir Winton, in Portugal we had an portuguese cônsul in France, that in 1940, saved more than 30000 lifes. Unforthenly his has been forgonten in the history. It was taken all his power and possetions by the portuguese fascist goverment of António de Oliveira Salazar. This Portuguese hero was Aristides de Sousa Mendes, the Bourdeaux cônsul, that gave more than 30000 visa to rich, poor, not looking to the origen, religion, to jues on France to escape war. Most of this peaple entered in a safe Portugal e Sweden.

Fantastic a film has been made about him and includes this magic scene that I can recall watching as a child and no matter how many times I see it, always brings tears to my eyes. Growing up in the 1960s when the Hippy era hoped so much for a better world and now 71, I get so depressed to see how bad and evil people still are in this world. It is when I am reminded of men like Nicholas Winton that while we still have humans like him, there is still some hope for mankind to get better and survive what so many of us end up becoming.

The irony that a person who focuses solely on achieving their goal. Caring not for how their actions may benefit their public image. Then ends up receiving greater recognition and respect in society than anyone who had. Different generational and cultural approaches?

Interesting to see, how so many Jewish KIDS were saved (by Sir Nicholas Winton), & are now in Israel, grown up & are condoning WAR, Destruction & loss of life. Wasn’t this the exact thing they were saved from. Jews, I know ISLAM ARABS are difficult, but you must act as an example, be better for it, you continue to behave in ways in the same way Nazis never liked you for & tried to exterminate you. Now you are doing the same, you’ve inserted yourself forcefully by proxy in Israel, with your riches (money) from around the world, & now just like the Nazis you are exterminating most innocent Arab Palestinians (which are most likely the same blood as you), you are causing terrible famine & are treating Palestinians like animals. The exact thing tat happened to you under Nazi Occupation. Have YOU really NOT learnt from it? You are causing again a huge grow in dislike for the JEWS around the world, & are dammed & doomed to fail. You only enrich yourself, you only help yourself & no other (just like you did under Nazis Times, you owned all the shops, all the jewellery shops, hence the name “Jew-llery”, you’ve lent money to all at hansom interest rates, you were thrifty, shift (Madoff-Ponzi Scheme), & very calculated cunning, you educate yourself & almost control the US Politics & some financial markets, if not all. With assistance from US, you built nasty Computer Viruses (Pegasus, and many others) that simply destroys Lives. US alone gives you over 4bil in AID still today, along with other Jews Money from all around the world. You’ve lost all humanity & treating the whole WORLDF as an adversary which you have to destroy/annihilate, via your Education & Money & the Power that it brings. You are building in so much HATE that history could repeat itself……..., you’ve simply become a RICH MONSTER & with the arrogance that goes with it, that reeks destruction around the world. You alone are causing the WORLD to hate you, again………
