I have never experienced a lunch thief but the whole idea annoys me, because it's like.. what makes you even look in the fridge that you don't put food into? You just prowl and wait for other peoples' food? What is going on in your life that we have the same job, likely similar pay, and yet you can't afford to just make your own lunch? I've fended for myself better without stealing while homeless, so you have no excuses at work

I don't see anything wrong with abusing those scissors, since the human who gave a damn about them is dead. The scissors are a harmless venting method.

On the catfood sandwiches, I just wonder what flavour and what quality. Fish catfood could pretend to be a few forms of canned fish, especially the likes of sardines, while I suspect meatloaf catfood can cover as a kind of pate. If it's one of the better brands, and seasoned with a good sprinkle of salt (because cats don't need excess sodium) and I bet it could cover for human food, since quality pet food is only one level down in meat quality from human grade meats.

I totally agree that the scissors use punishment was WAY out of line. The grandmother sounds like she was overly harsh in the way she treated OP. I do not begrudge OP for keeping and using the scissors however OP wishes.

Having lived 18 years with my seamstress mother and her special scissors, I do understand how special scissors are special scissors. As kids, my sister and I were not allowed to use Mom’s fabric scissors. They were kept in a special place away from other scissors and Mom was the only one who was allowed to use them. It was annoying as kids, looking for scissors, knowing there was a pair of scissors in a certain place that we could not use. I can’t recall ever using them, so no punishment was ever handed out to us for doing so but I do clearly remember being told the rules about them (and we were punished for other things, so I’m quite sure we would have been had we used the scissors).

However, being a paper crafter/artist as an adult, I confess that I do own different scissors for different mediums. Some of them are what I would consider fairly expensive ($30-$50 a pair) and are priced that way bc of their size & how they are made and sharpened. My kids know which ones are “mine for art” and they do not use them. We do have many other scissors around the house, likely in almost every room of the house, that are used for anything and everything.

So, just saying I understand the reason for restricting use of Grandma’s scissors — but NEVER to the extent of cruelty and harming the child. I hope OP is getting satisfaction out of using those scissors I however they please. PS My mother passed away 8 yrs ago — and yes, I do have those scissors!

The grandma in the story. I would say that she kicked BOTH of the pastors in the gonads, TWICE. if she was still alive that is...but either way. that story gives two lessons:
One: Be nice, treat others like you want to be treated.
2: Just...dont be racist.

I think ruining the scissors is probably pretty therapeutic. My mom used to force me to baste every seam I sewed.
I still sew sometimes, but I haven't basted a seam for over 20 years and my creations come out just fine.

As a white Southerner, I'm glad that the grandma in that story did what she did to the church and pastors. They earned it.

As a prep cook, the industry is ALWAYS looking for good line cooks. I only excel in preparing the vegetables and making the base for sauces and broths. But a lot of places are looking for prep cooks who can ALSO be line cooks.. Because of how grueling the work can be. I WAS a combination prep and line cook and all I did after a few months was sit in the dark and drink a line up of beers once my shift ended and I got home. I have a deep reverence for line cooks. And a deeper one for line cooks who don't treat prep cooks like me trash.

OP you AH, for ruining those expensive scissors ✂️, SEWING , GOOD SEWING scissors are extremely expensive. You would have been better off selling them as vintage.
