Darn tough socks are the best and are very underrated. They are definitely my go to and they last forever. They have thinner and thicker options for different seasons. I wear them all year long. Also I love my Craft vest that I can layer over stuff. Really warm and makes a huge difference. Finally I would chime in that Tracksmith has some excellent base layers and I love their winter jacket cause it has a thin wool liner with a waterproof outer shell. Brilliant.
ОтветитьHey Ko! I've been a runner in Michigan for over 40 years so I have experienced all of the possible winter type weather. I have also been a guinea pig for all of the technology I could afford to keep warm and safe through those winter miles. From cotton long johns and sweat pants to Gore-Tex head to toe, I have used it all, luckily not losing any digits or other vital body parts😅 I'd enjoy a few reviews of winter running shoes. Yes, I've also put screws in my outsoles which helped me to win a club run once. ❄
ОтветитьThat time of year winter running is here!
ОтветитьHi I know you are running CIM (so am I) and am sure you've talked to the runners who are familiar with the course. Anyway, it's "net" downhill, so it's not like a tunnel race in WA or Rebel series that's actually all the way downhill. It's more like rolling hills especially mile 16 to 19 which is just a stretch of a road in the residential area. It gets tough and after mile 21 there's a bridge (small one) that feels like a wall. The spectators are great and lots of supports on the course. Good luck and enjoy CIM!
ОтветитьThis video reminds me why I moved to Florida after college. I remember a day in Indiana where it was -20 with wind chills around -40. 🥶 Nope! Nov - Feb is the big race season in Tampa, great races every weekend.
ОтветитьGreat stuff Ko ……I’m really excited about decathlon gear. I ordered some of there warmer gears, as it’s getting cold (to me lol) here in upstate NY I am really enjoying and the price point is AMAZING!! thanks for intro to that product line.
ОтветитьLove your videos on running gear! Quick question though running when it’s heavily snowing so much so hard to see and eyelashes begin to freeze( in fact in this video I saw some nice icy buildup on your eyes.) I would wear shades but I’m a night/early morning runner.
ОтветитьMichael, excellent video. Would be interested to hear more about the gore wear jacket. Maybe a separate video dedicated to that would be good. I also use the buffs that are winter oriented for the head and bought randy sun socks this year for when it’s icy and wet on the roads.
ОтветитьThank you Mike for the recommendation! Do you use softlens while running?
ОтветитьGreat information for winter running!
ОтветитьYou need to move to Florida :)
ОтветитьHey Ko, Great stuff. Question, have you considered drone running footage. Do you own one? I feel like you’d get great shots.
ОтветитьSocks goes under the tights right?
ОтветитьGreat info.... i actually have a pair of windproof cycling pants that I use on those really cold days, they are so warm. I also find that golfing jackets are a great option and value at the end of summer for those fall days and early winter.
ОтветитьGreat tips! Is it not slippery when you run during winter? Should I run on the snow or the pavement? Any specific type of shoes that I should wear?
ОтветитьHow about shoe selection??? When the roads are covered in snow and ice do you switch to a trail shoe for better grip and weather protection?
ОтветитьAnyone know the type/make of jacket Ko is wearing in the intro segment?
ОтветитьHi, MK - you are running with solid confidence in slush / snow so what, if anything, do you do for traction?! I am always concerned about taking a major header and run super stiff in the elements as a result, which is significantly less than ideal as one can imagine. Many thanks in advance.
ОтветитьI like that term knifey spooney, never heard it! Also - what is the shirt / hoodie(?) you have on? I like it! Lastly - my spouse has had a pair of darn tough socks for 7 years now…wears them regularly and still no holes!
ОтветитьI live in AZ valley so I don’t these cold cold temps, but man, my blood has thinned. I hate cold fingers so I’ve been googling everywhere for gloves.
ОтветитьTo add another tip (been in Calgary for over 30 years and have run in -35C or so), don’t use a down jacket when really cold. They really hold the sweat in and become useless after even short workouts. Great info Michael. Yes, Craft makes fantastic winter gear, especially their ‘protective’ underwear that provide great wind protection for the nether regions. Cheers!
Ответитьbeen saving money for the gore infinium jacket in white. with shorter days and now running in a less populated area, I want to be seen. I have one i got on sale on the sierra website at like 70% off for biking that works great too.
I got those craft pants bc of your review last year. My only issue is behind thigh area with the pads, it collects moisture and when I stop for a minute or two, I get shocked by the cold, damp sweat/moisture lol. i have a pro deal w. smartwool so i get my socks from them but darn tough is seriously the best sock company ever.
Wow this video made me cold! 🥶🥶🥶
ОтветитьVery Informative! Thank you sir!
ОтветитьThank you so much for this, incredibly helpful for a newb like me! I'll be going to Plain, Washington in Feb for 3 weeks and it'll be my first time ever running in snow + 20 degrees F 🥶 I am so nervous as to how I'll do--I'm from SoCal, sunny LA, so my brain is having a "lost in translation moment" in regards to REAL cold weather, haha
ОтветитьThis is so important. I moved from CA to the east coast and have been seriously struggling. THANKS
ОтветитьGood video. Thanks from someone in the Chicago NW suburbs! :)
ОтветитьHow about a video on winter running road shoes? I see a lot of recommendations for trail shoes but your thoughts on road variants would be helpful.
ОтветитьWe are spoiled in the Bay Area in Northern California. Rarely run in weather outside 40-60F year round.
ОтветитьIm diggin the WU socks✌
ОтветитьVery helpful video, thanks. Question: I feel cold easily. Can/Should one wear thin layered underwear long tights as base layers under winter running tights?
ОтветитьChicago winter is brutal 🥶
ОтветитьWe need to talk about those zebra running shoes 😍
ОтветитьBeen running all year round for thirty-six years in Michigan. Always take into account the windchill factor and the snow/ice conditions for determining what to wear.
ОтветитьDefinitely appreciate the video. I live in Alaska and winter here is rough. Although, my mother is from Chicago and when I visit family at Christmas that windchill is almost worse than Alaska. At least here in Anchorage anyhow. Pretty sure up around Fairbanks is the worst
ОтветитьSubscribed!
ОтветитьOh this is amazing thank you. I’m in Northern California and all of a sudden I’m out in 34 degrees trying to run in my summer leggings and hoodie. I’m new to running so this is my first winter running.
ОтветитьHI!!! Do you put something in your winter running shoes?
ОтветитьThanks for uploading
ОтветитьGood video, running in this cold, how sweaty do you get? Dose the sweat get to your 2nd layer?
ОтветитьGore Tex Infinium is not waterproof just water resistant. But it has a better breathability instead. Normal Gore Tex (non Infinium) is waterproof. Infinium is the name of a specific kind of Gore Tex fabric and not a line-up from Gore (the brand). Its kinda confusing.
ОтветитьGood rule to follow:
dress like its 10°C more outside.
When you sweat, your heart rate increases
ОтветитьDon't call it windy city for nothing
ОтветитьHey, I've got a question about layering. When I run in the winter I'm sweating a lot and then I feel cold. Especially in the neck/chest area. Even if I only do 10k. What's strange is that on the inside I feel warm but my skin is cold, like that I easily catch a cold. Now i've heard that the base layer should take up the moisture to wick it off and for the wind I should wear a hardshell on top of it. But where is the moisture supposed to go when trapped in a hardshell? How do I get rid of the moisture and be protectet from the Wind? When I'm adding a thick enough layer of fleece or synthetic fibre to hold off the wind im feeling too warm. If I'm removing the baselayer, the cold sweat remains on my skin. Is there a Goretex jacket the only way to go? Thanks for your Video.
ОтветитьLove the sweater youre wearing in the video. What is it?
ОтветитьHi Kofuzi, we need another one for this year for an updated available gears.
ОтветитьName of gore jacket?
Ответить
