One hundred years ago and change Christians were killing Christians (WWI), Eighty years ago Christians were killing Christians (WWII), right now in Ukraine Christians are killing Christians. It is always and everywhere sinful. I could enjoy a beer with any of the fellows in any of these pictures from any of these armies. Stop it now, there is nothing there but pain. We are the shattered remnants of a once great culture destroyed by our own lust for power over others. May God have mercy on all of us.

My great-great-grandfather was a Pole under Austro-Hungarian rule. He was conscripted into the Austro-Hungarian Army and fought on the Eastern Front as a sharpshooter. He survived the entire war and returned home. He never wanted to talk about what he had experienced.

35 photos from the Great War and at least 30 of them are just the western front.

I don't know if other countries formed ''Pals Regiments '' etc, as Britain did. They were formed from ANY group of men, from ANY town or City even Sports clubs. But, without doubt, it was the Poorer men, from industrial areas, who had never left their village or town, let alone, been abroad. And this psycological carrot, was used to bribe some, to join up.

Epic and Dramatic , the music sure is, and adds greatly to the Drama of these excellent, formerly unknown photographs, at least, to me.

So many lives wasted & casually thrown away by politicians.

My father was with the American Expedition Forces, he worked as a hospital orderly on evacuation trains. He told me stories, but as a youth I didn’t see glory or metals so I largely ignored.

Unlike today's phony "victims" all these men were the real victims of their generation's time and place. There was no escape from this hell trap. Heartbreaking for them, and their families.

The last Solider who witnessed WW1 died in 2009 at the age of 111 years old

I am paraguayan and i heard atleast 20 times one of my brazilian “friends” say ‘my grandpa must have killed some paraguayans then’ (too scared to tell them that they would be uh.. ready dead of old age from a war in 1864) not to mention most brazilian soldiers were untrained sorts of militias
