Do these original trilogy discs have Lucas' 2004 edits, such as changing Boba's voice in V, Christenson's inclusion in VI, and all the CGI nonsense in IV?

So my order of Star wars from best to not best (I don't want to say the w-word) is:
1: Episode 6 and 4 (I can never decide)
3: Episode 5 and 3 (again, can't decide)
5: Episode 1
6: Episode 2

So I've gotta say that you saying that 4, 6 and 3 are the best transfers really makes me happy. I don't care about 2 that much (dunno why really) so I also don't care about the transfer as I'd likely only buy it to own the entire set and never watch it.

I also really liked rogue one, definatelly not the same as the originals (but also not comparable imo) so I'm happy that turned out well. I think I'll buy the exact ones you have.

I'm sticking with the individual releases I would love the box set but $350. I've got one through five I do plan on getting rogue one because it fits into the storyline between three and four, I love the artwork the holographic look on every cover. My favorites were 1-3. I will get the sequels 7 8 and 9 but I am debating to get nine at all because of the bullshit that happens. But I'll be getting them all because I love Star wars and I want all the movies.

I have The Complete Saga 2015 reissue so is it worth getting these releases if I don't own an Ultra HD Blu-Ray player?

The only way to watch the Orig. Trilogy is Harmy's despecialized version. Why? Just look at the colors. On Lucasfilm's version Leia looks like she has made up by a child (too red) on Harmy's version she looks like a grown woman. Same thing for C3-PO: he has a constant red glow that's not there - and should not be there - in Harmy's version. Don't drool over sharpess. That disappears when you're 1 meter away from your TV. The completely ruined colors, however, do not.

Very unfortunate (scandalous actually) that the 4K blu-ray are not available in Belgium with Dutch subtitles

I highly doubt the CG “enhancements” Lucas made to Ep 4, 5 & 6 were rendered in 4K, even if the original movie was photographed on 35mm. Essentially I’d say you’re getting an upscale on all 7 you’ve got there.

I have the best buy exclusive box set of the saga. The 4k is solid, not too much to boast about, though I wish there was. The fact that we only have the special editions in 4k is disappointting.

Should I get them on 4K if I already have the blu rays?

I'm not getting this because I'm just as happy with the fan 4k77 preservation for my star wars watching

It's 2021 and I'm STILL forced to watch the original, theatrical cuts of the classic trilogy in poor transfer quality on the "bonus discs" of the 2006 DVD release. For the love of Skywalker, Disney, can we just get the dang original theatrical trilogy scanned in 4K and unaltered, please? You'll have my money the day that happens but until then, I refuse to buy anything Star Wars-related from you.

Very helpful review. I have all 7 of these sitting in my cart right now (also like you, none of the Disney sequels). Just wanted to check out some reviews because I'm concerned about the prequels. I almost took them out of my cart while you were talking about Attack of the Clones, but now I'm really curious about Revenge of the Sith.

Like you I also only consider episodes 1-6 as 'real' Star Wars (Rogue One was ok too but I've never felt a need to own it). That being said, looks like at Best Buy the individual movies are about $20-24 each in 4k, so $120-150ish to buy 1-6. There's a 'Skywalker Saga' set from the UK which is region free for about 200. Do you think there's any reason to pay $50 more for 3 movies I don't ever want to watch again, but just for the boxed set and any special features that includes that you wouldn't get with the individual movies?

Actually the Original Trilogy was shot on 70mm film, also I don’t like the fact the Box’s don’t include episode number it’s so stupid

I just bought the original trilogy separately, I do not care for the prequels on 4k.

I would probably buy the prequel trilogy on 4k. But if you havnt already, try to get a hold of Harmy's Despecialized, or 4k77 and 83. That is a direct 4k scan of the 35mm negatives and its amazing. There are DNR. and no DNR versions. No DNR of 4k77 is the closest thing you will ever get to how the movie actually looked in 1977. Its like hearing the little scratches on a vinyl record. I did like Rogue One and Solo. But if I never watch the Sequel Trilogy again, it'll be too soon.

I must say I HATE when people say they, “don’t consider the newest of the saga part of the saga”.
This simple is NOT FACT !
It is part of the saga and thus the story of the skywalker saga.

They were not as good.
But get over it if you are a STAR WARS FAN ( at the least ) and want to own this series you MUST GET the WHOLE SAGA.

Sticking with the prequels and Rogue One on Blu-ray, but only have DVD versions of the original trilogy. Best Buy sold 4K versions of those for $13.99 each on the 4th so I couldn't resist the upgrade.

I completely agree. Kathleen Kennedy is a glorified coffee girl that wasn't even good at her job then.

Hi there....im a HUGE Star Wars fan (the same films you've listed, not the Disney crap apart from Rogue One) but I'm not overly tech savvy but thought this question I'm asking 4 years later might be valid.

I've just bought a brand new 4k tv with obviously newer tech than what was around 4 years ago when you made this review. So my question is, would these 4k films look better on newer tvs with better upscalling and features like quantom dot technology? I hope my question makes sense and I'd love your feedback as im thinking about adding these 4k versions to my collection 🙌😊
