This may sound harsh, but, in a world that is severely overpopulated, why should my tax dollars go towards feeding those who don’t contribute to society and only take up space? I get that we are all human beings, obviously, but we are also the makers of our own destiny and make our own choices in life.

Those "thrift store" owners are millionaires. This is big business, and a quick way to get rich as all your stock comes from donations. And, you get a tax exemption for donating a small percentage to charity.
I don't feel sorry for the owners at all. They can afford the insurance.

That's Canada. I got drugs addicts outside my window in Windsor Ontario. Fighting and stealing wiring while camping in the bushes and cooking their drugs. Police do nothing. 12 hours for them to show up and complain at me for calling. If only we had journalists in Canada

Thrift store owners get hundreds of thousands of free stuff donated to them and charge ridiculous prices for someone else's junk. Sounds like they're getting a bit of karma.

You want to take out this ugly situation then you need to go to those who make the decisions. Like Bonnie Henry. Dix. The ministry for social development. And mental health.
However, if you now decide that this behaviour is no longer acceptable be prepared for this same attitude to be be used on you. My guess is that this is the real sticking point for many because BC is awash with a multitude of addictive behaviours.
