Stumbled on your channel by accident - some random LotR topic - and was glad to find a WoT video, if even just one. Would LOVE to see more of it, though, as it is an amazing work of fiction and by far my personal favorite among those you've covered, with TONS of areas for deeper exploration, even among those of us who've read the books.

Honestly, the Wheel of Time sounds like a hodgepodge of random things stuck together without really any sense or distinction. Every other fantasy world and story feel very distinctly their own, ASOIAF, TLOTR, Dune, Witcher, even Harry Potter. The Wheel of Time sounds rather shit tbh.

I really loved the Wheel Of Time series, i'm almost reluctant to watch the show because the books are so good. I may give it a shot to see how they did, but at the least I should reread the series. Great synopsis!

I got chills hearing you read the intro. I started listening to you years ago and love your Tolkien and GoT stuff!! Super excited for you to cover Wheel of Time and hope there are more. This is by far my favorite fantasy series and the one I've read the most.

Should have never been done by Amazon Prime. They turn everything into a joke, this series included.

I worked at a bookstore 25 years ago, it was my first job... I remember always seeing the WOT books and pondering whether or not to give them a try, as I loved the handful of Conan novels that Robert Jordan wrote. I never did though, and I just recently started watching the TV show just because...

And now here I am, because I knew IDG would have videos on the subject... And I see myself picking up the books in the very near future.

I can never forgive Amazon for what they have done to this amazing rich story the point i finally gave up was s2 realizing how absolutely insufferable they have written Moriane... I still love the books and will probly start another relisten soon it happens a few times a year. I just cant handle anything done by amazon. I even overlooked the "boy or girl" crap from season one and kept an open mind as long as i could but by the time the "sister" showed up in season 2 i had my fill of rewriting something i feel so passionately about. I hadnt ever gotten into reading before watching things like Lord of the Rings so i was not seeing any issues back then (original trilegy) sometime mid 00s i started really getting into reason and yeah my mid 20s i was and still am obsessed with Harry Potter i was offically a reader after starting WoT. I had such high hopes for a movie or show but what we got was just absolute crap.

Need more of the Wheel of Time Content. Deep Dive on each book would be an awesome series to listen to from you.

It is a horrible tv series on par with the flop that is Rings of Power . Two amazon fantasy series by the greatest of the genere back to back that turned out to be absolute narcissistic poop

Could you explain season 2?

The show sucks but if it gets more people to read the books then I guess we got that going for us. Hopefully Hollywood figures out that novelist are better writers than they are in many instances and don't change entire plot and character arcs for the sake of "I can make it better"... if they could write something better, they would have written something original that was better.

I know its blasphemy, but this series is better than either Lord of the Rings or A Song of Ice and Fire. Maybe even better than The Dark Tower. Maybe. Just dont judge it by the show.

Just bought the first three books. Haven't seen the Amazon version, but when I imagine the characters, everyone is going to be white and attractive.

More Wheel of Time content please it could keep you busy for years.

I am really disappointed that they only showed the full fabulous opening title sequence for the last episode in the second series. I loved it all through the first. The theme of reincarnation is so interesting as it is as real in our real world (and is one of the key features in Buddhism), as it is in this fantasy world. Also, the idea of women being the dominant sex on many of the cultures in The Wheel of Time, a flip of the way things are in the real world, is a interesting concept.

I think this is the best introduction to my favorite series that I've ever seen! Short, simple, focusing on most important things for the first time reader :) Will here any friend I'll recommend WoT in the future! Great Job!

Ooooh yes, I am so here for this. One of my absolute favorite series of all time!

I will add another quibble. You suggest that most people find their choices predetermined by the Wheel, and only the ta'veren exercise free will. It's described rather the opposite in the books. If you're an ordinary person, the Wheel doesn't much care whether you become a fisherman or a soldier. It will simply incorporate your choices into the larger pattern. But if you are ta'veren, then the Wheel has chosen to weave some key feature of the pattern around you, in particular. It takes hold of your life with a heavy hand, and you will play that role whether you wish it or not. Ta'veren have quite a bit less freedom and agency than the rest of the world! Mat's entire story is a perfect example of this.

Any plans for Osten Ard? Direct Influence on ASOIAF with similar approach to story telling and worldbulding and setting the atmosphere. Also it's an on-going series with final book coming soon, so some speculation and theories are possible.
