Many years ago, as a Civil Servant, I received an office circular, warning of problems with certain types of office chairs. The problematic chairs had the lever protecting from the side of the gas strut, rather than the tip. The dodgy ones had been spontaneously ejecting the occupant

The reason most of them are in china can be attributed to the fact that A: Most people in china probably own a chair (I know that sounds stupidly obvious, but consider the population count of other countries where people would own a couch or something but no chair.), and B: China holds an incredibly high population count, over a billion.
