What's wrong with MIDO? Case diameter is too big for most people. Ideal size is between 38mm and 40mm. The first Rolex GMT-Master introduced in 1955 came out at 38mm. Later on at 40mm.
ОтветитьI love my MIDO Ocen Star 200 in Blue.
ОтветитьProbably the only brand i disagree with you on
ОтветитьHere in the US, you hardly ever see MIDOs, which is sad bcos they're waaaaaaaaaay better looking than the overrated Hamiltons. For me, at this price point, I'd rather go Japanese than an entry-level Swiss watch
ОтветитьLooking at getting my first watch. Watched quite a few videos now. This one was a standout for me - great review. Will check out your other vids.
Ответитьaren't these 44 mm?
ОтветитьI own an Ocean Star and the factory bracelet was screw in links. It's the base model and had a great bracelet with the same diver extension and screw in links. I wonder if they are interchangeable. I could switch they out every now and then. I was thinking of adding the GMT to my collection, but the AD is asking $1250. There are a few gray markets on the bay for a tad less than a grand. I hate to pay MSRP for a watch but seems Swatch is trying to get Retail. Think a 10% discount would be fair as it's an AD.
Ответитьa 40 mm version and I buy it !
ОтветитьThere is an Ali brand called Lacz Denton that makes an Mido homage.
ОтветитьPowermatic movements are disposable.
ОтветитьI have five Midos
ОтветитьWhat is your opinion about new MIDO MULTIFORT TV BIG DATE Looks like PATEK ?
ОтветитьIs it true that you can't get the ETA movement adjusted if it's running fast or slow? I heard somewhere that the MIDO needs to be sent back for adjustment.
ОтветитьMido has good quality but unfortunately most of their watches are too big for most people.
ОтветитьMido is one of the best values in entry-level watches, particularly if you're looking for a dive watch. Most of their other offerings are a little bland.
ОтветитьSucks they offer rose gold and not yellow gold...
ОтветитьMido es guay ❤
ОтветитьMIDO ITS A WELLKNOWN
WATCH IN MEXICO, EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS BRAND, FOR ITS QUALITY
AND PRESTIGE AS A SWISS WATCH, ITS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, I LOVE THIS BRAND, AS OMEGA OR TISSOT, OR ANY OTHER SWISS BRAND VERY GOOD, WATCHES NOT VERY WELL KNOWN IN U. S. A.
Powermatic 80 is infamous for being a very unreliable movement, it even contains plastic parts. Unfortunately, the watch looks great on paper but don’t be fooled by the looks, the movement is crap. For the price you pay for this watch, you at leat should expect a better movement. Buyer beware.
ОтветитьThey need more variety of design and colours, and more size choose. Their quality is above Tissot or Certina, with higher standard and accuracy movements
ОтветитьI own an original 1968 mido ocean star in 18k gold. It’s never been serviced and it still runs ok. I don’t wear it a lot but when I do it keeps time very well. It’s the only watch I’ve come across where in the owner’s handbook it says ‘your Mido ocean star is 100% waterproof’ in most other watches it says water resistant!!! The watch is sealed by its plexiglass crystal as there’s no entry into the back of the watch. It was my farthers watch and he paid £80 in 1968 for it. It’s been valued at around £1600 today. A friend of mine has two omega watches and both required service at 4 years old as both broke down!!! MIDI watches are very underrated, the new models are much of a muchness with other brands and are all under the swatch umbrella where they share a lot of internal movements.
ОтветитьI've been looking at reviews of these for several weeks now....I think I'm going to pick one up on the steel bracelet for a travel watch....it doesn't have the brand recognition so I feel a lot more comfortable wearing it abroad....except Mexico that is :)
ОтветитьI'm a big fan of Mido, Certina, Tissot, Zodiac and Hamilton. Some of my favorite watches are made by these guys and don't get enough love...
ОтветитьI own that Mido Ocean Star GMT. I get more comments on that watch than a watch. Great value
ОтветитьCertina pronounce is Chertina not Sertina!
ОтветитьMido makes a great watch, but there is nothing about it that really grabs you and holds your attention. It's a handsome watch to be sure, but there's nothing eye catching about it. I think that's why they are often overlooked. There is nothing about the overall design that sets it apart from any other dive/gmt/sports watch. It's everything you would expect a sports watch to be, but for that same reason, I think it's a little boring.
ОтветитьHow about Edox? Jody, please review one.
ОтветитьI’m going to Tokyo next week and I’m thinking about getting either the Seiko Sharp Edge GMT or the Mido Ocean Star GMT. I have a 7inch wrist. Which would you recommend? Thanks!
ОтветитьMido is huge in Mexico, they sponsor even local tv news. Theres a Mido beautique in every mexican mall and are sold in every retail store. On early XX century Elgin railroad pocket watches was Mexico's main brand. By the 50's that place was took by Steelco and Haste ( US ownership, Mexico made watches with swiss movements). Tissot and Mido were strong maybe due to the resemblance to aztec -mexica name "Tizoc" for Tissot, guess Mido's name was familiar on the most popolous spanish speaking country, ( [yo] mido means [I] measure in spanis, time in this case). Mexico had a Westclox alarm clock facility also. After the quartz crisis Bulova and Citizen kept their market share alongside Mido. Commander was very popular among police officers (as Rolex was with police chiefs). Even a XXI century mexican folk singer is named "El Komander", maybe due to that influence. Nowadays Mido's main adversary is (Grupo Salinas) Nivada (not to be confused with Nivada Grenchen revival microbrand sold in swiss francs) that sponsors national tv news (also owned Grupo Salinas), has mexican football league teams products and is sold in every retail (mexican Sears by Grupo Carso, Liverpool, Fábricas de Francia etc).
ОтветитьNothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Mido.
ОтветитьCan you tell me what your watch winders are in the background? I’d love to have one myself but can’t find them on Google.
ОтветитьAnyone know if the strap for the Ocean Star GMT or even the bracelet will fit an 8” wrist?
ОтветитьDunno why? Just purchased a Commander II Chronometer and its a fabulous piece
Ответитьhow is 40 mm if you hawe on screan 44 mm, and all off ,,experts saying 44 mm. ????????????????
ОтветитьI like MIDO a lot, but wish their lume was better. Not sure why it's not as good as Longines.
Ответить??? Can you wear the blue strap in the water with the calfskin backkng
ОтветитьMido is well known and loved in Asia far east.
ОтветитьI like the look of bulova
ОтветитьIf this watch was a 40 mm I would buy
ОтветитьWhat's the lowdown on this watch? Does it really feel like a quality Swiss watch?(I wish it had a clasp, I hate buckles!)
I would really like a true GMT watch, can't quite justify the $$ for Longines Zulu Time, don't want to run the Seiko gauntlet on the Sharp Edge. Does this Mido feel like a a solid watch, or should I literally spend twice as much for the Zulu? The Mido is $1850 in Australia BTW.
English-only speakers are more likely to be in the not-know group
ОтветитьThe Ocean Star 200c in grey is an absolute stunner
ОтветитьI have a 1950s Mido Multifort Powerwind, anti shock and anti magnetic. It runs like a champ
ОтветитьMido Dial….not so impressive though😅
ОтветитьWhen I first saw this review, I knew I had to pick one of these up. A "true" Swiss Made traveler's GMT, while retaining all the toolish functionality of a Diver, for around $1200 on bracelet, truly a no-brainer for me. I opted for the Black & Orange accented one. Fits my 8inch wrist beautifully. The lume is bad imo as well. The hands are the first to go, not good. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of polish, especially on a tool watch, but can forgive it here, as the positivers far outweigh the negatives. Great review Jody, as always!
ОтветитьLove these watches, I sooooo want one. Not in blue, thank you. When you start listing the value points on this watch, it almost gets a little ridiculous. Start with a Swiss-made automatic GMT movement with an 80 hour power reserve, and then just go from there. The use of the 60 minute bezel adds awesome utility, this is a tool watch. A refined-looking tool watch, but a tool for sure. Me love mucho.
ОтветитьLike many below, I say Mido is better than the Certina, Tissot and Hamilton trio.
In fact, my experience is that they are better than the Tag Heuer aquaracers. At least as far as the bezel movement is concerned.
I have been looking at watches at around 1000 EUR / USD and Mido is the first one that actually has the looks that I am interested in. Especially the commander model. And the fact that they don't sponsor crap sports like the NBA makes them even more appealing to me.
ОтветитьMy MIDO Ocean Star GMT M026629A Blue arrived a few hours ago.
As Mexican I've been always aware of MIDO, and their Ocean Star line was legendary (true or not) for their water proofing, said to resist gas penetration and wearable in a steam bath (something that I've always personally loathed). Also, I found their sixtyish styling with integral chain mall bracelet and hidden crown boring. Certainly not the sporty & technical styles that Rolex and Omega were promoting. To a youngster of the 60's they would look like something an old guy would love and I wouldn't caught dead while wearing one.
Well, decades have passed, I'm about to embark on a trip of several timezones and found me in need of an affordable traveler's GMT that would let me know at a glance my home time plus jump back and forth across several time zones and daylight saving schemes. Could have got something from Citizen for $200 probably but I'm not a big fan of quartz.
A Frankfurt Financial Sinn would have probably been my choice but my trip is costing enough that I don't want to spend that kind of money, so I ordered an Ocean Star GMT, exactly like the one you showed. Curiously enough, I even use exactly the same strap adjustment. The watch is a dandy and I expect to wear it proudly.
Gotta tell everyone, the presentation box wasn't at all expected and the COSC certificate inside came as a nice surprise. Setting the time and date was not exactly the best I've experienced but the fact you can move the hour hand backwards makes it fairly painless.
The lume, as you well point, could and should have been much better. However, I've come to rely on the screen of my phone for night time and although I do dive (not so much nowadays) I don't depend on a watch to time my dives but use a dive computer.
In sum, your review is a reassurance that for a bit over $1000 in six interest free installments it's a great travel accessory which I shall enjoy for many years to come.
